The other OT thread sort of made me wonder - what entirely earnest cartoons are/were your favorites?

Not adult ones or tongue in cheek. I am talking 100% intended for kids.

Rugrats, Animaniacs, Doug. These were my jam.

When Farnald Degand used to get on the court, Janny and I would say “Hey Faaarnold” to each other literally every time.

What are yours?

I know it’s not what you meant but when I first discovered South Park as a pre-teen, I 100% thought it was made for me.

When I was a kid, towards the end of every summer me and my siblings, cousins, friends, would talk about what new Saturday morning cartoons we might see come fall and the start of the school year. Actual topic of conversation. Saturday morning cartoons were that big of a deal back then.

Smurfs, He-Man, Transformers, and the SuperFriends are the ones that come to mind first. Apache Chief, the Native American character from SuperFriends who grew into a giant whenever he wanted, was one of my favorite cartoon characters ever.

These are all from my kids childhood, except the above mentioned Underdog.

Gargoyles had the two oldest asking me about Macbeth so I read it to them.

Also loved Magic School Bus, Rugrats, SpongeBob, Doug, Arthur, The Tick, The Clone Wars, and Avatar the Last Airbender

Grew up without cable, so whatever cartoon I could find on PBS before/after school during the week and Saturday morning cartoons on one of the national networks. Some of my favorites included:

PBS shows:

Arthur
Magic School Bus
Thomas and Friends/Shining Time Station
Theodore Tug Boat

Saturday morning:

Looney Toons would run for an hour every Saturday morning, was my absolute favorite
Recess
Doug
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command - way better than the recent Buzz Lightyear movie that came out

Gargoyles! Yes, that always ran on one of our local affiliates right after school. I usually didn't get home in time to watch more than the last 10 minutes but always loved it when I could watch it.

USA network dominated the cartoon scene in the 80s. Saturday mornings were still under control of the big 3 networks but all of the good cartoons during the week were on USA.
