ISU Gambling Megathread

Ferentz is crying to the NCAA to be nice. He says more then 2 dozen active athletes are involved. And 100 people with ties to the athletic department are involved. From CBS Sports. 5 sports. I didn’t notice the spelling was wrong, I had to correct it about 4 times before it left the spelling alone. My ipad.

Sounds like the punishments are starting to be doled out today, including players. One staff member I know of was given the option to quit or resign.

I'm guessing there will be an announcement by ISU end of day tomorrow.
Resigning is the more dignified move.

As much as I dislike the guy and the program, I have to agree.

A lifetime ban for betting $10 on the over on an NBA game you have zero connection to is ludicrous. The floated incremental punishments based off how much and what was bet on make more sense.

Secondly, however many are caught up at UI, I would wager (get it? get it?) that about every other school in the US has the same situation. The whole gambling app explosion has a ton of people doing it, including young people.

I would guess the 'right' programs need to be outed and then shazam! no penalties for anyone.

IMO, this is probably a dumb analogy, but if you’re speeding and cop pulls you over you can’t say “I know I was breaking the law, but I was driving safe!”

These athletes know they can’t gamble, regardless of what it’s on, they have a speaker come in every year and give them a talk on this, and if you don’t abide by the guidelines and boundaries that have been set forth for all athletes to follow, then yes, there should be a punishment.

Now, a lifetime ban is probably a bit aggressive, but right now they’re in the “find out” stage of “f**k around, and find out.”

Kind of funny but I did something similar to that a few weeks ago.

I was leaving a race track and I knew there was a stop sign coming up so I was going slow looking for it and rolled right passed it. A cop was sitting there watching and pulled me over. I told him I knew it was somewhere around there and was looking for it and when I saw it I was going by it. He laughed and said I could tell you were looking for it but I had to pull you over. And then just let me go on my way.

But yes these guys have it pounded in their heads that they can’t gamble
