Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

And I don’t think Cal and/or Stanford would ever consider joining the B12. Heck, Cal is probably more likely to go D-3 than move to the B12.

Not that I have any inside info, I don’t, but it just seems to me neither of those schools would ever be interested.
Cal is still paying off the $500M they spent on football facilities 10 years ago. The university kindly took over half of the yearly payments, but the athletic department is still on the hook for ~$9M a year just for that one project.

Unless the UC Regents make UCLA share some of that sweet Big 10 money they’ll be desperate for any league paying enough to avoid default.

Mark Madsen seems to be taking the basketball job seriously (they’ve got a top 10 transfer class coming in), so maybe they’re gearing up to throw themselves at the Big 12.

If they do not, it will be because they think they probably have an option in the Big 10. Whether that is delusional or not, we shall see, but hanging the future of your program on that takes some balls (if they haven't been given damn solid feedback from the Big 10 previously).

Hanging around with the PAC 12 remnants isn't going to increase their allure to other conferences, and it could well deteriorate over time.

If OU and UW dig in their heels and stay but CU, AZ, ASU, and Utah leave for the Big 12 are we even sure the Pac 12 has a guaranteed path to the playoff? That has to be a concern for those two. Even if there is a path, that is a one bid league and the B1G, SEC, and Big 12 reap the benefits of a watered down PAC.

Because they don’t want to go to the Big12. Oregon thinks it’s better and Washington both thinks they are better and has the massive politics issue to deal with. Also to a lesser extent the academics but don’t think that’s as important in this case as the politics.

Wait until they see their new Pac members.

Have you been to Ft Collins? It ain’t Boulder. Then there’s the new pac team with Methodist in the name.

Oklahoma state politics briefly pretended to care about OU and OK St staying together too.

It would be weaker than AAC was last few years. Probably tougher than new AAC after the three defections to b12.

Oh I didn’t mean politics about bringing WSU I meant politics in the broader sense. Everything else I totally agree with.

What would be funny is if the conference is forced to stop at 16 if OUW got in and two of the corner schools were left out.

If the playoff spots are as valuable as the rumors are the conferences will not allow the pac to have an equal share or an autobid in my opinion.

Oh, I agree. But, I do think that WAOR actually add value to the Big 12 and if they became members who stuck around, would help in the next round of TV negotiations. I can't really say that about the other teams left in the PAC. They only way I want the Big 12 to add 3 more teams, is if 2 of those are WA and OR.

That being said, the main point of my post you quoted was that I don't believe WAOR are really a target for the Big 10. As I said, I think if the Big 10 really wanted them, they'd be in the Big 10.

What’s the down side of adding AZ with CU? Or you’re considering that done?

It is still hard to believe, how poorly the Pac 10 has handled this. If you sat down a couple years ago and wrote down everything you could think of that the Pac could do to kill itself, they did all of them, and even invented some you couldn't imagine.

What were they thinking about on this TV deal? It's just crazy that grown adults could be this ignorant.

Really remarkable.

And I'm glad they did it!

Except Oregon needs football to be relevant where UW doesn’t. UW also has the massive political issues to deal with that aren’t as bad as the Cali schools but pretty close.

It’s obv it’s Oregon
They realize that they need to move quickly, if they want a seat when the music stops. The BIG had their chance. This is just the beginning of how Lord Yormark is building his empire. All hail Lord Yormark!
