Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Looks like Iowa is playing three straight games on NBC in October. It will be really interesting to see what the Big Ten having so many games on over-the-air TV does to the general mindshare surrounding those teams. I wonder if there’s a chance we see a future where leagues are willing to take less money to increase their exposure. If there’s one thing I’ve never really understood, it’s the Big 12 not prioritizing more “premium” time slots during Bowl season.

That really shouldn’t be a concern as the commish and staff should be drafting up multiple schedules depending on how this plays out. Really don’t need to be farther out then 6-7 months from the start of the season.
Looks like I'm not the only one who's thinking the Big 12 is telling CO that if they have any desire to be a Big 12 member for 2024, they need to decide very soon.

Just open in incognito mode. Here's the story since I don't consider using incognito any kind of real paywall. Mods feel free to delete if you want.

Pac-12 survival: Colorado’s conundrum and the unique challenge of a Boulder existence
The Buffaloes seem academically tethered to the West Coast, but their athletic past is tied to Texas

One event, two athletic directors and an immeasurable difference in public commitments encapsulated the Pac-12’s wobbly present.

The closer your position to the front lines of college football — the space occupied by fans, media, coaches and even athletic directors — the more fervent the speculation that Colorado is prepared to leave the

“Where we play is taking us to where our people are,” George said at the time.

(Note: The alumni data cited above is from 2016.)

Just a little skeptical when I see data cited that is 7 years old.

The data cited was after Colorado had been in the Pac12 for 5 years, so I would expect it to be tilted toward being favorable to California vs. Texas. Would be curious to what those same data points would have been in 2006, 2011 or 2021 to establish if data examples are a new trend. Or show that California kids have always gone to CU because they can't get into the California state schools and CU tuition is probably cheaper. Really no different than why a lot of Illinois kids attend Iowa or Iowa State.

Really no different than what is occurring in the Colorado general population. I haven't lived in Colorado since 2005, but even then there were a lot of Californians and Texans in Colorado. Californian's because their money went further buying real estate and Texans to get out of the sweltering Texas summer heat.

I feel like as a reader I have to parse words when reading realignment Tweets.

What is a Big12 deadline "of sorts".

Doesn't sound like a firm deadline. Also the statement could equally infer a self-imposed deadline by CU to meet internal needs.

Didn't say I had proof. Just said I'm not the only one who's thinking this. Jeesh.
Oh I know I just love the degree of hedging in that tweet “rumor” “not able to confirm” “of sorts” it’s honestly the perfect realignment tweet. My bad if that came off as too much of a dig on you

Buffs are returning to the Big 12 and will announce soon. And no I don't have proof, but go ahead and mark it down friends.
i kinda of agree. it seems imminent at this point. but then i remember that these realignment stories take more twists and turns than any in sports and would still put it at 50/50 that it ever happens.

It wouldn't be a Mega Thread if there weren't a number of imamate moves that ultimately don't happen...
