Nolan's Oppenheimer

My favorite movie is The Prestige because of how hard it hit the first time. I caught more details the second time but watching the ending the first time was so good. Hard to replicate during a re-watch.

Whenever I watch it with someone I get worried it's too obvious, so much foreshadowing. However they never know and always love it.

Def in my top 3 movies ever. Probably 2nd behind Big Fish

1917. It's fine but severely overrated.

It’s extremely propulsive but it has big video game energy. It’s honestly like playing a CoD campaign. Get to some location, talk to the Sargent, new location to get to, go there, etc.

That said, Roger Deacons FTW

Agreed. Dunkirk is beautifully shot, but there is no reason to care about any of the characters and hard to understand what is even happening. If you don’t know the story of Dunkirk, you still won’t know much after seeing Dunkirk the movie. It’s not a good movie.
The part of that movie that annoyed me the most was Barry Keoghan (sp). The only reason that character exists is to be accidentally killed by Cillian Murphy. He has absolutely no bearing on any of the plot other than that. It was lazy and stupid writing, which is shocking from Nolan. It doesn’t help that I hate that actor in everything he does as well, he’s like an Irish Shia LaBeouf to me.

Oppenheimer was such a great film. Its a very difficult task to keep someones attention through a biopic and a particularly complex one at that. Nolan did this perfectly, I couldn't look away for 3 hours. A must see. Probably in my top 10 movies of all time.
I was a bit worried walking in to a full 3 hour movie but had faith in Nolan that it's work. The look and story was so engaging I didn't check the time once. I would recommend watching it in a theater to get immersed in the experience and not get grabbed by distractions.

Oppenheimer really wouldn't play well by being broken up with a at home viewing like Mission Impossible or Indiana Jones would by easily allowing for a breaks and picking back up later.

I would say Oppenheimer and Barbie are kind of the last hopes for summer box office, which has been really bad so far. Hollywood desperately needs a big weekend this weekend or this summer will go down as one of the worst.

They still have Dune 2 coming out later this year, which I hope does huge box office because I loved the first one. If there is ever a movie that is worth seeing in the theaters its that one. Also Disney has an animated flick called Wish coming this fall that is a bit of a return to their more popular musicals of the past. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is one of the top earners of the year like Mario.

I'm so excited Dune Messiah is going to get an adaptation as Part 3.

I loved Prestige and Interstellar. Need to see Dunkirk.

Dunkirk is one of the greatest war films of all-time.

My favorite movie is The Prestige because of how hard it hit the first time. I caught more details the second time but watching the ending the first time was so good. Hard to replicate during a re-watch.

Spoilers (and I mean it) --

Interstellar has a similar twist ending and knowing it is coming does not take away from it -- at least to me. You pick up so many subtle instances of foreshadowing that make the plot "lock" together so much better when you know it is coming. Watch The Prestige again and pay very close attention to Bale's performance. You can tell when he's playing one brother and when he's the other brother.

This is why I didn't like Tenet. Interstellar and The Prestige have twists that make sense, complement the themes, and make the plot make more sense. Tenet is just confusing and the "big reveal" at the end doesn't do anything to make anything before it more meaningful or sensible.

That's a pretty small subplot in a gigantic war epic.

We were late figuring out when the grandparents could watch the kids tomorrow so the only option is the small screen at Jordan Creek. So sad, absolutely love The Palms here in Waukee.

I waited too long too to jump on tickets. The only seats available at the IMAX are the front rows. It looks like Gran Turismo will be the next wide release for IMAX on August 11th so Oppenheimer should enjoy at least a couple more weekends in the IMAX theater.

One of my biggest movie going regrets was missing out on Interstellar at the old IMAX dome downtown so I don’t mind waiting on Oppenheimer.

Barbie was a pretty good back-up choice this weekend though.

The Irish Shia LeBeouf is why you got the funny made me laugh. Not arguing or anything with you.

I've heard this before. Pretty amazing if true.

No idea if this is true but will believe it. If you've ever talked to a Pacific theater WW2 vet, they were all sure they were going to get killed invading Japan. So I would say it is probably right.

Saw Oppenheimer this morning at the IMAX in Waukee. Great movie, but I really had to concentrate because the time period kept switching back and forth throughout the movie. It's a lot easier on my simple brain if the entire movie plays out in chronological order.

I was a little surprised that the movie really focused more on Oppenheimer's personal life. Everything is from his perspective. It would have been interesting to get more of the US/Japanese/Germany/Russia military perspective. But still a great movie.

Now I’m not so excited about our tickets tomorrow. I HATE time shifting or time repeating movies. There are times when it works and makes sense, but sometimes it feels like a lazy way to provide background.

I learned a lot of things I never knew. I will need to see it a second time to I think really appreciate it. But the acting in it was awesome. So many great actors/actresses in it.
