Or are you just getting spoiled by Kwik Trip/Star? At least growing up I never would have considered basically any Casey's nice. Now after being in MN in a town with 1 Kwik Trip per capita I can clearly see gas stations don't HAVE to be dingy.

Casey's Pizza is a state of Iowa institution. It can't be compared to a real pizza joint where that is a specialty and all that they do, but it beats all the ones it is trying to compete with in most instances. Your Pizza Huts, Papa Johns, Papa Murphy's, Dominos, Little Caesar's etc. none of them can hold a candle to Casey's.
There were always Kwik Trips/Stars in my area. 10-15 years ago, it was a legitimate argument between whether they or Casey's or were better. In that decade, Kwik Trip/Star has gotten noticeably better, particularly in their prepared food, and Casey's has gotten dramatically worse.
Kwik Trip/Star still has really bad pizza, but everything else is top notch.
Yes it beats the “race to the bottom” cheap national chains easily which is why some view it as legendary quality. In terms of value it’s a very great value compared to those.
Because it's one of the biggest pizza chains in the U.S. It's not great. But it's not bad. Is it as good as Gino's or Juliana's or Grimaldi's? Hell no. It's not trying to be. It's a pizza take out/delivery business. Like Dominos or Pizza Hut or Little Ceasar's. Casey's beats the hell out of those chains all day.
That's funny. Bertucci's just closed their last NJ location recently. You must've been just in time.
Honestly, Bertucci's was not bad, but it was a chain. There are so many authentic mom & pop Italian places you really missed out.
Huh. Must be a "new" thin crust then? They've had thin crust forever. I guess I haven't seen any Casey's commercials for a while.
I'm weird in that I actually do like Kwik Star's Cheese Mountain pizza or whatever it's called. But it not even in the same stratosphere as Casey's pizza. I would compare theirs more to a frozen pizza.

IMO that's more of a topping issue. Casey's crust doesn't hold up well to a lot of veggie toppings or pizzas with a lot of toppings. But yeah they could definitely cook those types of pies longer.
Haven't had it in years but Bob Roe's used to be legit!
Bob Roe's! My cousin played football for Morningside about 8-9 years ago, and there were a couple times a bunch of my family went out there for games and we'd go to Bob Roe's afterwards for food and beer. I remember the wings being solid too.

You're not really comparing apples to apples having a crust preference that Casey's doesn't offer. I like Home Run Inn pizzas, but it's not better than Casey's.
