You are 6’ 5”. Too large for an economy standard seat. Let the person in front of you recline and give them a small bit of comfort anyway. You do not fit even if they remain upright.
A round trip flight to anywhere from Des Moines is $350 minimum, took my kids to florida over spring break, flights alone were $2000 for economy. So I should of paid $3000 to sit in comfort, but then I am taking 3 comfort seats away for someone who might be too tall for standard economy...Seems like it would just be easier to have that person switch seats

Again I think this is the 3rd time I’m saying it, my kids aren’t Dennis the menace. They don’t kick the seats.
How do they screw with the seats then? If they are under 10, does it actually affect them if the seat is reclined infront of them. If there are 4 of you, would it be easier to swap seats with a family member who didn’t have a seat reclined in front of them? Seems like you have several options here.

My kids don’t kick seats, they play cards on the tray table and get excited at times. I often tell them to stop and apologize to the person in front. If they person reclines their seat I don’t do those things. Pretty simple

So you are choosing economy over comfort. You made a choice. Never had the money to take the kids to Disney World. Very expensive. We did provide them with their own car in high school. Saved money for that. Went to South Dakota and Dells and went to Minnesota a lot.

Some of the responses in this thread are great. If you want more space, pay for the upgrade. However, I'll make you a deal. I'll ask you permission to recline my seat (which we all know we don't have to) if you promise to ask permission before you sneeze, cough, or fart in my general area while on board. Deal?

IMO, being in a window/aisle seat and then taking up the armrest that you share with the poor middle seat person is much worse than reclining a seat. The armrest hoggers are the worst. I’m not immature enough to fight for it the whole flight and if you have a window or aisle, you already have that going for you
I would have to agree with this. But I also hate the overly large people who sit in the middle seat who just automatically think they can shove their elbows into my area of seating because they're big. F*** off.

Or fly airlines that don't allow the seats to recline. When I didn't have airline status, I hated it when people reclined but they paid for the seat just like me AND the airline and airplane design allow them to do this. I never recline because I want to be more considerate of others and the extra 3 inches doesn't help me much. But if someone else wants so, no one should stop them (but I'll silently judge them as selfish in my head).

I had someone crack my laptop screen because they slammed back their seat without warning.

The only time I'll recline is on a red-eye flight. It's just considerate is all.
Work or personal? I'm curious as to how that was handled in replacement. I know it's an accident, but kind of a rude accident.
