As it currently stands the building is completely insignificant. It's in total disrepair, and probably the biggest event they have their each year is a bunch of little kid dance recitals.

You may not like what Pollard has to say about the building or his feelings on it but it was completely left for dead before he got control of it and now there is a chance it could be at least a little refurbished.

Given the legislature's cuts to ISU's state appropriations over the last few decades, it's easy to understand the horrible budget constraints ISU has had over the years. But to let Iowa's building of the century completely go without maintenance is pretty sad.

Generally speaking, people aren't in the market to attend shows here during the summer. With various target audiences including family AND the fact that Ames population is much lower during the summer, it doesn't really pay to schedule "bigger" musicians or plays then. I don't remember ever going to something here in the summer as a paid show.

Tickets went on sale a couple weeks ago for a young comedian named Matt Rife at Stephens. He's doing a 2 show event this fall at Stephens and both sold-out pretty much before the public sale date. Not sure who was responsible for running the presale but they screwed up. I was always of the opinion that during the presale only a certain percentage was available for purchase and not every seat.

Everything he said about the ISC is 100% correct. It's completely out of date. and Brutalist architecture has never really looked good.
