Some of these college football sites will send people to the airport and scout out who is getting on the plane. Glad people on Cyclone Fanatic have never done that

Let's be clear, the Big 12 would take Stanford and Cal in a heartbeat. Stanford is a top 10 collegiate brand, and both of their academics would immediately fix the Big 12's perception in that area.

You are aware that both the B1G and SEC are at 16 right? And that they will likely take some ACC schools as well?
We can go to 16 now just like them, and still have room for ACC schools, just like them.
No. Stanford is really good at non-revenue sports. But no matter how good they are at field hockey, it doesn't make up for the financial drain they'd be on the conference TV package. No one cares about the academic perception of an athletic conference.
They took USC, UCLA, Texas, and OU to get there though. That’s a far cry from Utah and ASU. It might be worth the gamble to wait for the ACC to crumble and get more attractive adds than Utah and ASU. Plus, those two aren’t going anywhere in the meantime anyway.
But TBH, I wouldn’t be that upset if we took all the Four Corners right away.
As annoying and for some reason entitled as Utah fans are, they are the best available football team. They would be a great add. Have the Utah BYU rivalry in conference, and a team for most of the Big12 to band together to hate on. Makes it more fun.
If only three of the four corners want to come, throw in UCONN as the fourth. Now obviously if only two of those PAC schools want to come then so be it.
Baylor carries that torch just fine.
The Big12's media rights threshold is a lot lower than Big10 and SEC. So there are a lot more schools that meet the Big12's requirements. I have no doubt ASU and UU are two of those schools and they are probably on the plus side of $31.6M.
IMO the Big10 made a mistake only taking USC/UCLA. Having just BYU, UA and CU isn't enough for the Big12 to corner Saturday after dark with ESPN. I see no reason why the Big12 shouldn't push to get to 16-18 teams over the summer.
Obviously, ESPN & FOX will need to foot the bill, but some schools like UConn, SDSU, Cal, Stanford, OSU and WSU would join at partial share. No school wants to be on the wrong side of the playoff money. Power schools will get $20M+, Group schools might get $6M.
Getting to 16-18 now, doesn't preclude the Big12 from taking 4-6 ACC schools over the next decade.
Nobody wants to be the one who kills the conference, they are just willing to hamstring it. We take 4, it’s probably completely dead. We take 2 and the big ten has a decision on their hands then. If they don’t take UO and UW, their value could drop while in the PAC.
I think "lol, no" might be a bit too absolute.
While I think it pretty unlikely, there's probably at least a couple presidents that would love being able to associate with those two institutions from an academic standpoint.
I don't think the PAC conference will cease to exist completely. Whatever Frankenstein conference they form out of the Mountain West and remaining PAC schools will be known as PAC IMO. So any declaration of the "death" of the PAC becomes a matter of semantics. B1G already did the dirty work while they were claiming to have an alliance with the PAC. B1G poaching UCLA and USC is the reason they can't get a competitive TV contract resulting in more teams looking to leave.
Stanford and Cal could be the sticklers though. Oregon and Washington leaving probably forces Utah and ASU to the B12 if we take them. Stanford and Cal could say screw it and vote to disband then. I don’t think they would accept the mountain west

The Pac## is only the Pac ## if they maintain their P5 status.
Come 2026 the Big10, SEC, Big12 and ACC are going to vote on selection criteria for CFP. All these moves are about conferences having a louder voice.
