Netflix Sends Emails to Subscribers They No Longer Want

If we own a second home, will we just have to do the verification process every time? We have times when both of us are at the same home but other times when one is at home one and the other is at home two.

Netflix is easy to use when on the go or traveling. Use Netflix as usual to watch on your portable devices - like a tablet, laptop, or mobile phone - or sign into a new TV, like at a hotel or a holiday rental.

Second home or frequent travel to the same location

If you have a second home or travel frequently to the same location, follow these steps:
  • From the main place you watch Netflix, connect to the internet and open the Netflix app on your mobile device(s) once a month. Then take the same steps when you arrive at your second location to continue watching Netflix without interruption.

So people will cancel because their deadbeat friends no longer can log in?

Don't see it.

Netflix with all of its content is very cheap.
It's the people who share it with their friend or family that split the cost so it's 5 bucks instead of 10 or 12 of w.e. a month, who may not think they get 10 or 12 dollars worth but do get 5 bucks worth.

Exactly. Who's going to cancel because their freeloading family member can't get free Netflix any more? Even if a fraction of the people who are freeloaders end up getting subscriptions Netflix will come out ahead.

No one gives a **** what their terms of use says when they marketed it a completely different way and they're already billing by the screen. People who share the accounts ARE paying for it when they pay for multiple screens.

The terms are there for a reason.

Back in 2017 they didn't care because the new subs were still coming in like crazy and the investor dollars and stock price were going nowhere but up. When that is happening and all of the consumer good will is going toward you they likely aren't as quick to jump on this issue.

I'm not defending the company and honestly I don't really care. But you can't compare Netflix in 2017 to Netflix in 2023, they are in a much different scenario. Beyond the stock price drop, they are having to lay people off like crazy. I'm not saying you have to like it but these were in the terms for a reason and they obviously didn't want to hit this button but they are happy to.

For the record I subscribe to Netflix but I almost never use it. My 6 year old watches Scooby Doo on it. I think he's the only person in the family that uses it. I probably should cancel to be honest.

Or the people who only watch Stranger Things and let their adult kids watch it too and think, meh, it’s kind of run it’s course and there is only one season left anyway so just sign up again for that

And how many people are actually bothering to split the cost of anything that cheap? Anecdotally none in my experience. I know people who "borrow" passwords, even lent mine out to some friends for a while, and none of them are bothering to split payments. I'm sure those people exist, but I doubt it's a lot.

It's more likely that one person subscribes to Netflix and the other person to another streaming service like HBO and they swap passwords. Cost is split in a way.

Netflix is the flea market of content providers. There is a ton of cheap crap on there, and I'm interested in about .001% of it.
So there is still interest, end of day it takes but a few shows to make people re-up.

Heck lots people don't even keep track of all the apps they sign up for. They do the trial and then are hooked in

Will see but I think Netflix ends up with more positive cash flow.

Considering the success of this in other countries, Netflix is definitely going to see more revenue and profits.

I'm sure that happens too, but how frequently? I don't know of anyone personally. I know of parents, siblings, and friends who let people use their accounts for varying reasons free of charge, and my experience is all I have to go from. I'm guessing that Netflix has data that suggests the same thing.

I remember hearing a Disney exec some time ago talking about how they didn't mind people sharing passwords even though it was against their own rules because it exposed people to the product and got them hooked. That same exec also said eventually that would no longer be the case and they would start enforcing their rules. I'm guessing that time has come for most streaming services now.

So once a month I need to actually visit my parents and sign my laptop in there. Ugh.

Why are the rules ridiculous? It's been pretty clear from the beginning that a subscription is for a household. Just because they haven't enforced the rule in the past doesn't mean it's not a rule.

Imo actions > words in this case. Yea they've said that from the beginning, but people have been purchasing accounts as a group for years now under the impression they could do whatever they want with it.

I also think there's something to be said that Netflix is getting Blockbustered. Their model has been undermined by networks keeping streaming in-house (which is bad overall for consumers)

Am I the only one who hasn't received the email yet? I wonder if it's because I pay through a 3rd party (TMobile)?

I'm guessing they know who's doing it and are targeting their emails. I haven't gotten one either.
