***2023 Masters Thread***

Meh. I will say I liked having Brooks in the mix. Just as important as having someone to root for is to have someone to root against. But I don't think LIV had some grand showing. Reed and Phil played well on Sunday when they were well out of the lead and had nothing to play for. Brooks melted down. Beyond that, the guys that made the cut wound up +9, +8, +8, +6, +5, +4, +1, -2. Reed and Phil know the course and played out of their mind for one day. No one else, other than Brooks, really did much.
If someone holds a golf tournament without Cam Smith, Brooks Koepka, and Dustin Johnson you cannot say the best players in the world are there. Plain and simple.

Brooks has had a good few weeks. Let's see if he can hold up. DJ is not a top 10 player in the world anymore. Hell I'm not sure if he's a top 20 player in the world right now. Cam Smith is about the only one you'd miss and he didn't play well last week.

No tournament is going to have all the best golfers in the world. There are always injuries, etc. Claiming the US Open is somehow devalued if those 3 aren't there is just silly.

Because no one cares about it. If they can't keep recruiting the stars, which they haven't been able to since that first wave, then they'll start losing some of those guys too as their contracts run out. I don't see where they go from here.
Unlimited money will make it easier.

The Saudis have hundreds of trillions of dollars. They don't care if they lose a billion or two on LIV.

The Masters, and all majors, are going to be better if the LIV guys are there.

I know this is a common thought with LIV but I couldn't disagree with it more. They have the cash to invest more and wait longer for the return, but they aren't going to keep doing that for ***** and giggles. If they don't get any return from it they'll cut it and move on.

Trust me…. nobody will be talking about any of these guys, or watching them play anymore, until the next major.

Why do you like Saudi blood money so much anyway??

So do you think LIV golf is the only place Saudi blood money comes into play in today's global economy? My guess your car at times runs on Saudi oil. Or you stay in a hotel financed with Saudi money. Saudi blood money is invested in probably every major US corporation- don't drink that Starbucks, hop an Uber, etc. etc. Last time I looked, the US is selling BILLIONS of defense weapons to the Saudi's every year.

It's the US of A so go ahead and "boycott" LIV golf and voice your displeasure with the guys that have taken millions.

Am I disappointed that LIV golf exists, you bet. But PGA players have experienced positive changes made to the PGA Tour because of the competition LIV poses. As a fan, it gives me guys to root against when LIV players compete in the majors. But at the same time I can appreciate how good Brooks is, or in a sense of awe at how a 52 year old Phil can play better than guys 20-30 years younger.

I look at it as Golf is now a bit like the WWE. Just waiting for the day when we have Lydia Ko and Nelly Korda sue the PGA to allow them to compete against the guys. Titleist will develop a ball made of flubber allowing women to hit the ball just as far as Rahm & McIlroy. That will give all us traditionalists something to get exited about- in more ways than one.;)

These guys all knew the consequences of their decision to leave. If they no longer qualify due to not accumulating enough points…. so be it. Another young stud will come along and be the next ‘Koepka’ or ‘Bryson’. They will NOT be missed.

F the LIV. The human rights violations alone make that tour disgusting. Good riddance!

They are getting the return though. I'm not going to go all cave here but they are absolutely getting the 'sportswashing' that they wanted. The LIV and WWE contracts are doing exactly what they wanted them to do.

OMG…. you are happy about golf becoming like the WWE? Wow…. now that’s a take…. a horrible one…. but still a take.

And we should just support the Saudi’s because we happen to do it in other ways too? Another horrible take.

Dustin Johnson is on the backside of his career.

Sure Cam & Brooks are in the peak of theirs, but the PGA Tournament does just fine without its premier golfers playing every week. How many holes did CBS show of Dustin playing this week? The tournament did just fine.

Unless there is big movement of elite players from the PGA, the only folks losing out are the LIV players from a competition standpoint. I am sure Brooks (and the other golfers) would admit not feeling the vibe of the crowd on the LIV tour.

I envy you, I admire you. You don't consume any products where Saudi Arabia has invested money.

What's wrong with golf having guys to root strongly for and against? Isn't that a critical element to most forms of entertainment? Sports, movies, books, etc.
