Does the B12 Tournament matter?

-Lampkin +Miles=winner, -Grill +Ward+Watson+King=winner. Winning always matters to elite athletes in any sport. I’ll give Surly some slack & say that his point was that of these 3: Regular season Champ, Conf Tourny Champ & NCAA Tourny wins that the players would rank the Conf Tourny last. NCAA Tourny wins would be first. When the media talks about great coaches, they list how they’ve done in the NCAA not the Conf. Bill Self was not accepted as a great coach until he won a Natty, didn’t matter how many Regular season & Conference Tournys he won. But yes a Conf Tourny matters to the players & the K State players are hurting today.

My sense this morning is that the only programs who are fully vested in it are at the bottom. oSu, WVU, TxT have an interest in doing well to secure their NCAA births. OU would have to win it to get a dance card.

For the rest, yes, it would be a nice trophy in the case but everyone will have forgotten who did what by next week when the dance starts. I remember Bob Knight ranting about it over there as meaningless.

I mean I'll watch out of curiosity and because I love this league and each team. But I wont have a fit over an early or late out, unless it's the championship game. The 2023 B12 champion is Ku.
It matters because:

1) sports ultimately are entertainment and the conference tourneys provide more entertainment.
2) those same sports are funded by television and the tourneys provide an important revenue source

As to do they matter for the teams: only for those teams that need to win a tournament to go to the NCAA. There are not many of those.

It can if you need a win to get into the field, for Iowa state this year, no it does not matter

It can matter a ton to the players but not so much to fans. The players are the ones playing for something.

The 'you're a loser if you don't think it's a big deal' is acting like the fans and players are on the same level of input into the process, which is not true.

I think this team would move an entire seed line if they won the conference tournament. I think anything that keeps the positive momentum from Baylor rolling is beneficial after that massive slump and the Grill dismissal.
We would move up more than one. It’s quite possible that winning the tourney will require three more top 10 wins.

NCAA tournament seeding sure matters. As does cutting down bets and taking home championships from the best conference in the land.

Guys, but Big 12 superstar King McClure said it didn't matter.

He was such a superstar out of the goodness of his heart he turned down an invite to Europe so he could call games for a third tier TV network.

Well, as I said earlier, I, like King McClure who actually played in it, I don't like this tournament because there's nothing much to be gained for the upper half of the league. It's a money grab.

TCU hammers K-State. It wasn't close. But what's it mean? TCU already had a dance card, as did the Cats.

Will be interested to see how the conference teams are seeded. See you next week when the games actually mean something.

God you’re insufferable.

Just spouting the same things. Just because King McClure said it doesn’t make it true. Have you not seen, no way you couldn’t have, that his record was not so stellar in the conference tournament? Would be why he didn’t like it or thinks it matters. Stop parroting what one guy said. You are ridiculous.

Something to gain: a big 12 tourney championship

Neither argument makes it right. It's a personal view. Mine is different than yours, that's all. It happens that King shares mine.
