Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Yup. The networks love it that the conferences bargain individually rather than collectively as a group. The overall pot could be way greater with the leverage of the P5 leagues together. Now you get teams transferring from P5 to P5.
People call me dumb when I suggest this, but I still think a high risk / high reward tactic available to schools not in the BIG 10 and SEC….is to threaten to break away. Give us equal share, or we take 75 teams / fans and a lot of viewership to our own league.

Because it is dumb. It’s all risk, zero reward.

Yeah 5-6 million less per school but what is the marketing loss on top of that.

Then you have to realize that’s without one piece bolting. The minute Arizona joins b12 or Oregon joins big ten it falls apart.
It’s the definition of a house of cards.

Big 12 was lucky it had so many options over years and in hindsight maybe getting rummaged through first helped.
- Playing with just 10 that included Texas and OU turned out to be a pay raise.
- Then TCU and WVU were solid additions to stay at 10 after next shakeup while keeping OU/TX. Pretty good case that both were superior to CU in those years and comparable to Neb/Missouri.
- Then BYU/Cincy/Houston were decent additions to stay on par with ACC/PAC with UCF being long term development prospect

Pac has none of that. If they go down to 10 they're doing it without their marquee brands. They would now die to invite new Big 12 schools to join that they would have turned their nose up at a few years ago. SMU???? I have to think they'd love a majority of New Big 12 schools over SMU.

Even just one departure might have it all tumble. Maaaaaaybe they could survive if the one departure was some weird thing of only Stanford to Big Ten. Any combo of Ore/Wash or the four corners to the Big 12 and it's toast.

Why is TCU only 5 seed in this hypothetical if they were ranked 3rd heading into playoff? Is there a rule top 4 have to be a conf champ? Kind of silly given the Pac and ACC were not harder than the B12 to become a champion. Clemson was only ranked 7th and somehow they jump up to #3?

The bye is a pretty big advantage...even though that 3 spot playing Ohio State in first game is a rough draw.
I just took that from the internet. Not sure the timing when they picked the ranks, but the idea is the same. Let the committee decide the ranks.

Just for fun, let's say his make believe piece:

They are adding SMU, SDSU, Colorado State and a fourth?
- they won't triple down on Colorado with Air Force
- Boise State? Seems it would have to be
Rice, SMU, SDSU, UNLV

I love this. Just love it. The Big 12 is stronger. It doesn’t matter who, where, when or why. It just is. And that hurts Stew. It hurts him bad.

It's not a contradiction at all, though. "Nobody wants them" doesn't mean the teams aren't strong, just that you don't have the 1-2 schools in the conference that move the needle enough for the BIG or SEC to come calling. The Big 12 is third best conference because the quality of the league top-to-bottom and not based on the strength of the top 1-2 teams (*cough*ACC*cough*).

I think the PAC now really wants Big 12 teams, but the big 12 teams dont want that Ho anymore.

More than anyone else throughout this ordeal, Stew Mandel has just set himself on fire on a daily basis.

Pay attention to his tone, I think it actually is happening.
Stew has demonstrated multiple times he is simply dense and tone deaf in regards to PAC 12 and potential conference realignment.

AKA - A PAC 12 homer.

Same guy that said an OU and UT less Big 12 would make no more than $10 million per year. He was only short $22 million in his expert analysis.

You think CCGs would be a financial advantage over CFP games? Okay I guess.

They wont dump a 30M game for a 40M game, when they can have both. Getting mega games is the whole point of this exercise. If a few teams play 15 or 16 games... no one cares.
