Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

“Whenever I’ve heard utah fans talk”
So Twitter, message boards, or a couple in person convos. Not a good idea to rope in an administration or a fan base based on socials and anecdotal evidence
I get that, but its not like there's a ton of better info out there telling us what their administration wants to do

If the Pac 12 turns into MWC part. 2, you think Utah is hanging out for that. Doubt it
That's assuming they don't think that we're Conference USA part 2. That would be an incorrect line of thinking, but it's still one that's out there even after we signed a TV deal that actually increased our numbers without OUT

Who in the hell thinks the B12 is anywhere near CUSA level? JFC get a grip.

Utahs TV numbers have been good. They’d be a top half in viewership in the new Big 12, if not top 2-3.

They don't get the Big 12 much in legacy media value outside of ad eyeballs, but in a future where active viewership becomes more important they will be a good brand.

However, rather than invite them, may as well see if the PAC implodes or waters down further. The more those things happen, the stronger negotiating position the Big 12 has.

Short of UW or Oregon, there's nobody left to poach right now that is going to result in a significant revenue boost for the existing teams in the league. But if Oregon and/or UW get a Big 10 invite, then even Utah is going to be willing to join with a deal friendly to the existing members.
Are their numbers good because Utah draws or good because Utah is good, and good teams draw? Actually question I do not know the answer either way

Did we not just have some of the Pac 12 guys pushing that BS again like a month ago? I thought we did but it seems like we're not.

CUSA was probably too far of a comp, they're the worst conference in football. Maybe American on steroids is what I'm after here?

I think their admin wishes the Cali teams didn’t leave and they weren’t on this position. Staying in the pac is a short term solution but has a clear playoff path. Joining the Big12 they don’t want to do but will probably be forced into.

I can see that as well. I'm not trying to say random Utah fans would know anything either btw. Your line of thinking is probably the right one here. I'm just out here trying to figure stuff out with the tiny scraps of info we actually do have

Dude we are the best bball conference in the country and will only get better. Football wise we are right there with the B10 and not far away from the SEC. If the Pac 12 schools want to mire in a wasteland then so be it, it would be a huge mistake but I don't care.

That documentary would run every day at 9:00 on the BTN.

"Great Moments in Big 10 History, The Declaration of Independence. How the Big 10 Wrote One of Mankind's Most Important Documents."
Sorry but if that is airing on BTN it would say “most important document” one of implies a potential superior document, can’t have that

“Not far away from the SEC” ok man put the kool aid down. Big 12 has one class in the top 25 in recruiting and just got blasted by Georgia. Right there with the big ten is fine thanks to the TCU win but chill before thinking you’re even close to the SEC in football

I’ve always been in the camp to be patient. With USC and UCLA gone, it gives us a chance to see who the better draws are. We have options, the PAC really doesn’t have much. The ACC would be a screwed up mess for any team to join the PAC. The PAC died when they didn’t see value in merging with the big XII.

We were also fortunate to have Bowlsby move on when he did and get someone who wasn’t going to sit around and have the old prejudices about how things should happen.

No one in the B10 would have beaten UGA that game. Don't act like the B10 is some super conference. They B12 isn't some crap conference.

Fair points. I just never immediately thought of them as a bigger brand. To be fair Utah has only been P5 for about a decade and has made a lot of noise since they have been in the Pac. If BYU really brings a bunch of Mormon eyeballs then I agree with you but because they are rarely any good I’ve just never seen their ratings be that high. Maybe being in the Big12 will give them that boost.

I have no idea why they struggled to be elite in MWC as Utah and TCU became pretty incredible teams those years with both of them actually having a National Championship level team or two before even joining P6/P5. Prior to that MWC era, BYU was the best football program of the three.

Their experiment to go independent didn't work imho.

I like Utah, I have nothing against them. I get a chuckle from their fans who are being naive with tunnel vision in all of this.

Like you, I just don't see the rush to double down on the Utah media market given our latest deal was still mostly driven by cable TV viewership and we already have that small local market covered with the team that has a larger national/international following.

Same thing with ASU. Arizona has been making more noise about Big 12 and is a better fit. If ASU comes as some sort of package, great. I don't see the need to seek them out on their own. I have a somewhat connected Arizona friend and I feel like it may be the most likely of any of this to happen, more than Gonzaga basketball even.

Plus ASU and Utah not joining could help some sort of Pac/MWC merger still be pretty solid. I don't want the Pac to get crushed...I'm just tired of Big 12 being the hunted and now it's our turn to be in position of strength as pretty clearly the 3rd most stable league.

Not many mwc teams have the option to get a deal like BYU got with ESPN, due to their national presence. I think the honor code makes it difficult to consistently recruit well.

TCU has a better playoff record than 13 of the Big Ten's 14 teams combined. They also have more playoff success than mighty Notre Dame.

That says more about the SEC than anything, but it also says the Big Ten has really just been Ohio State in terms of CFP success. Oklahoma hasn't won a playoff game but it's not like Michigan or Michigan St or Penn State would have ever done a tiny bit better in any of their games.

TCU only has a win because they got a lucky draw playing a non SEC, non Clemson, Non Ohio State easy matchup with Michigan.

My biggest concern is none of the teams who jump to the Big 12 be given special treatment, and I guess I'm mainly referring to Oregon and Washington.

Special treatment for some members (e.g., Texas) is what can kill a conference and it nearly killed the Big 12. If Oregon or Washington decide to join, that's great, but they have to join under the same exact conditions as every other member.
