Lipsey needs to be aggressive outside

for as great as tamian has been this year the big 12 coaches have found his kryptonite. early in the year on the pick and roll he got easy passes to shoon . now defenses are sagging completely off of him. they are dropping his defender into the paint and taking his driving lanes and passing lanes away. he has to take a couple outside shots to at least make defenses guard him strait up. otherwise we are playing 4 on 5 on the offensive end of the floor

This isn't exactly new information. I doubt that it took Big 12 coaches 20 games worth of film to find the "kryptonite" that he doesn't shoot 3s.

He wasn't a 3 point shooter in high school, not sure why anyone would have expected that to change in a major way by mid way through his freshman season. I imagine it will be something that will be worked on for many hours in the off season, if it's not already.

its not just 3 pointers they were leaving him wide open at the elbow of the ft line extended he has got to take that shot. as a big 12 point guard he should not back away from that shot .

Lipsey should have been benched after his 3rd mistake. I just can’t comprehend how we can let people stay in the game when they’re constantly making mistakes. Obviously, he’s been a great player for us, but there’s no way in hell he should’ve been in the game after making so many mistakes. Why wasn’t he benched? I just don’t understand.

Yeah he has to be aggressive. Most of the time he doesn't even look at the basket.

I seem to remember early Monte shooting more mid range than Hoiberg probably appreciated. I think Tamin can hit some of those if he would take them.

Here's the issue-- his jumpers aren't even really close and it's not a real fluid looking jumpshot. I don't think this is as much a case of keep shooting and they will start falling as it is a case of needing to put in some work this offseason to retool that jumper.

The poor kid needed a break. Benched is too strong. But he was left out there and it seemed like almost a punishment for him.

By benched, I mean, sit on the bench for a few minutes, take a break, regain your composure, and then maybe go back in the game. But you can’t just let a guy stay in the game when he’s constantly making mistake after mistake.

I think if we have some of our other guards bring the ball up besides Holmes, I might have to close my eyes. One of them has to look while using his left. Is Eli King a point guard at all?

Have you seen how our offense runs when Holmes has to play point?

Lipsey had a rough stretch but we are clearly better when he's on the floor. There's nothing to suggest if he was struggling against their pressure that Holmes would have been any better off.

Did I say we would have been better off? I said the poor kid needed a break.

He's a 20% 3pt shooter thus far, do you want 0.6 points per possession?
Getting any decent shot off is better than not getting one off at all, getting a desperation shot at the end of clock off, or just turning the ball over trying to pass repeatedly around the arc.

He has to do something. Doesn't even matter what it is really, but it needs to be something. The rest of the team cannot succeed playing 4v5.

The thing that really bothered me the most about Lipsey tonight was that he dribbled the clock all the way down to 5 seconds on the final play. If you know you can't shoot it yourself, why are you barely leaving any time for a pass? His shot is an obvious weakness that we can play around but damn you have to be smarter than that.

We knew there’d be a tough stretch, let’s see how they adjust.

I’d like to see Grill come by and Lipsey hand off to him from an NBA style play, forces his defender to come out with grill’s threat.

I just don't understand how guys like him and Jones get to that level and yet can't make a simple shot or be so bad that teams dare you to take a 10 foot jumper.

I know it's different during a game, but I've been on 2 Big 12 basketball courts and the hoop is not that far away at all. It looks much bigger on TV and for free throws it's even closer than it looks on TV.

I know this isn't a shocking comment, but we are seeing how big of a loss Williams is for this team. To have someone spell Lipsey when he is struggling or even take over in different sets/at different times could have turned a couple of those lapses around or stopped the bleeding.

Tamin has a huge upside, but having to do it all trial by fire is going to give us games like last night. Williams being available I think mitigates a lot of that.
