***CFB Transfer Portal 2022-23 thread***

Looks like the Wake Forest QB is in the portal. From what I've seen of him, he kind of reminded me of Brock.

I knew I’d catch some heat for X…rightfully so. X was a terrific get, but overall, it’s a lot more misses and a lot less impact on us than I had first thought it would be. X was an exception…pun absolutely intended.

The guys we’ve lost, specifically Isheem last year, have had almost no impact on our team. Our defense was spectacular this year without him. Would we have like to have Isheem and Craig McDonald this year- sure, but did our defense skip a beat? I don’t think we did.

Overall- transfer portal: not the game-changer I thought it would be.
I'll state the obvious. If a team can bring in an elite starter from another team, the probability is that portal guy will be a home run. But there aren't many Caleb Williams, Travis Dye or Jordan Addison's in the portal.

Otherwise it's a mixed bag of hoping a solid starter at a mid major can make the jump to P5 or P5 underachiever can achieve at a new school. In a lot of cases the later is fools gold! A guy like JT Daniels is probably the poster child of portal fools gold.

But the reality is portal guys are probably no more of a risk that HS recruits. IMO recruiting & portal are like sales - it's a numbers game. Sign 25 players and hope 8 develop into starters.

Knew he was good but didn't think he'd get that caliber landing spot.
He's a big strong kid with a solid arm. Put a talented roster around him and ND should be top 10 next year. Rees is a great OC, wouldn't surprise me if he isn't a HC in 2024.

How did the transfer portal workout for KU?

They’re have been some decent ones, with X being the exception, X was spectacular. Overall though- not the game changer it was thought it would be.

As far as winning games, if you believed that it was going to save us from ourselves, that was a serious miscalculation on your end. Nothing changes- we still need to recruit and develop good talent and if we don’t, like at the O-line, we’ll pay the price. The only thing that will fix our O-line is better coaching, better coaching, and better coaching. We have recruited several high 3-star lineman over the years and even some 4 star linemen. It’s up to the coaches to develop them and win with them. Transfer portal can’t fix that.
I dont disagree with the idea we need to be all in on development. But we're not in the spot we are without failures to develop, which was very evident in the QB, WR, and OL. New coaches likely will not turn a bunch of bad vets on the OL into superstars or make Noel and Stanley suddenly good starters.

Some dudes just arent gonna be that guy. Either because they've maxed out their talents, had their years wasted by bad coaching, or a number of other reasons. To fill some of the developmental failures we've had here we need better players too. We can still develop people and not go full Hoiberg while using the portal to upgrade holes that we don't have time to waot on

You’d have to ask Kansas…for my part, I agree with another poster that the portal is like HS recruits: it’s a numbers game and you hope a few pan out from many.

I just don’t buy into the hype surrounding the portal. So many thought it would ruin us- it hasn’t. Other fans think the answer to our teams’ problems can be solved in the portal- it won’t.

The portal is just another piece of the recruiting process now. Some will come, some will go, but our seasons will largely be decided by our coaches, the decisions they make, and how much they can develop the players we do have. Until we can put together several 10 win seasons, our talent level will largely remain the same and the big fish will continue swimming over to the blue-bloods. Portal, NIL, and whatever comes next be damned.

Wasn’t Anderson a transfer from Minnesota and the linebacker from Delaware considered immediate impact transfers? Lots of guys out there that can make a difference
