still shows me that the twins offer of 285/10 wasn’t that out of the ballpark now. He just wanted more years… maybe the medical reason is part of that?
Yes. After luxury tax payments the Mets payroll will be almost half a billion(!) dollars.
That's a lot of money for the Mets to still not win the division.
What a sham. The luxury tax model is what is broken with MLB.
As a Dodgers fan I just hate to see things like this happen to the Giants.
Yep it's why outside of the Twins, I just gave up on MLB. It's too regional. Too haves vs. have nots. NFL isn't perfect but its so much closer to fair and that's part of why it's king.
The Twins can find these gems and just watch them get swallowed up by teams with money.
The Giants deal fell apart because they found something during the physical. Correa has been injured 7 of his 8 big league seasons.
Imo Giants catch a break. Almost everyone of these double digit year contracts end up not working.
I understand no one is turning down a massive contract, neither would I, but something has to fundamentally shift in baseball, the parity is essentially non existent.

"Small market" owners can spend the money instead of crying poor. That would go a long way.
I can’t remember the book I was reading but George Steinbrenner had a quote when a reporter asked him if it was fair to the small market teams that he was signing the biggest free agents- “Calvin Griffith could buy and sell me every day of the week and twice on Sundays.”
