The point is until they share revenue fans are the ones that ultimately get burned. Everyone in the business gets paid whether they care to win or not.
Yep - Twins ownership being poor was never the problem. Twins ownership being cheap has been the problem historically.
That being said, I'm not too heart-broken about missing out on Correa if it was going to take a 10 plus year deal. I think they just need to spend elsewhere, roll the dice with Royce and get a veteran stopgap guy like Andrus.
Unfortunately I'm expecting the Twins to be sellers for a couple of years trying to build a better young core of players. The Guardians are going to be a major problem for a few years.
It will be interesting to see how these big contracts turn out for the 4 SS that signed in about 5 years. I think Correa's will turn out to be the worst with Bogarerts probably the next likely to be a bad contract. Turner is 29 and the most proven of the bunch, Swanson at age 28 on a 7 year deal may be the most reasonable of the bunch as crazy as it sounds. He has the lowest ceiling offensively of those 4 but that contract should age much better than the other 3 with less years and money for a gold glove caliber SS with some speed and decent bat. With the new shift rules going in place the Cubs moving Hoerner from SS to 2B and having Bellinger in CF may turn out to be smart strategy having 3 good gloves right up the middle of the field.
Correa may end up being a Twin after all. Their medical evaluations accept everything.
Offer a two year deal with better terms for the team than the original three year deal that he walked away from.
Agree, but probably at a discount from the 10yr/$285mil they previously offered.
I can understand the frustration of small market fans. But it isn't a level playing field.
It's a lot easier to be a rich owner of the Dodgers, Yankees, etc. whose local TV rights deal can generate a couple hundred million annually. Compare that to a rich owner in KC, Oakland or Minnesota whose local media rights deal is around $50M.

6 year contract. Sounds like the Giants and Mets were not worried about his health the next 5 years, just after that.
