Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

You know what, doesn't even matter.

I'd rather beat St. Johns's, lose to Iowa and beat McNeese State than Lose to Duke, beat ISU and lose to Wisconsin in a week.

ISU got punked and learned from it. Iowa had a hangover, I suppose. ISU is undefeated in the Big Xii, nad Iowa starts off in an 0-1 B1G hole.

Let's Go State!
Agreed. From a rivalry standpoint and getting a very good road win, it was a missed opportunity. But in the end, it's an early December loss. This team will either make or miss the Big Dance by how they play in conference. give me an extra conference win over a win against the Hawks if we can't have both. Better yet, give me a win in Lawrence over ANY win against Iowa (unless we played them in the NCAA Tourney).

Huh? I'm saying like in the tourney in March. Both teams full strength.
Two things:

1. You didn't say in March/NCAA Tournament. I took it as if we would have had King, which is just around the corner here, so had we played the game two weeks later.
2. Point still stands that just off of what you are proposing, they would be adding in the best player on the court and we would be adding in an unknown commodity at this point. Maybe King ends up being otherworldly.

But yes in March, give me our team, as we know what happens to Iowa in the NCAA Tournament.

I'd rather ISU play Iowa with Murray because they'll lean on him way more.

The other night they had about every one flinging threes and hitting them and I don't see them doing that with Murray out there.

52% from 3 against ISU. 26% from 3 today vs. Wisky. How do they do that? We sure bring out their best.
When you get up 15-0 and then 20-2 out of the gate making shots seams to get easier. Our only chance was that they’d lose focus because they believed they had it won. That doesn’t happen, though, when you’re playing your rival and coach/daddy is going for his 500th.

Also helps when ISU looks like they're guarding air.

Let's not forget that after the first 10 minutes or so, the teams were pretty even Thursday night. After Iowa went up 20-2, it was 55-54 Iowa the rest of the way. Iowa State just didn't come prepared, and it cost them in a really big way, as we couldn't hit enough shots to come back from such a big hole. I don't think anybody believes, except maybe insane hawk fans, that Iowa is 20 points better than Iowa State. Much like how most sane Iowa State fans knew we weren't 20 points better than them last year after the depantsing we gave them in Ames.

Two things.

1. They came out way more ready to play than we did. Lots of Iowans on the team + being embarrassed last year + losing a couple nights before + losing their best player = a ton of motivation. That usually isn’t sustainable for multiple games. They are who they are.

2. We had our worst defensive effort by far in the Otz era. Lazy and slow for a majority of the game.

I said it in a thread the day of the game but it doesn't matter who Iowa is playing you HAVE to survive the first 10 minutes. The Hawks are well known for their quick starts and you have to keep pace. If you keep pace they will eventually crumble. Iowa wins very few games where they don't build an early lead. Go back the last 15 years or so, when we lose to Iowa we absolutely get our d!cks kicked in. I think you have to go all the way back to the McD era to find a close loss. I don't care which way you slice it, Fran somehow gets a little extra juice in his guys for this game.

You are right, with the exception of our 78-72 win in 2017 (weird game by 2 teams that really didn't end up being very good), these games have not been close. Even one of the years, maybe 2015, we got buried in the first half by 30 points from Jared Uthoff, trailed by dougle digits, got our d!cks kicked in like you said, but had enough firepower to come back and win that one. Thursday night was very similar, sans an Iowa player going for 30 in a half, but this Iowa State team is going to really struggle to come back from deficits like that. I mentioned it in an earlier post, but we did come back from a huge deficit against Baylor last year...somehow. That was at the end of the season though, where we had really gelled as a unit, and with Brockington, who I'm not convinced was replaced very well by the current cast.

Just flat out embarrassing.... he acts like a 5 year old.... and does so about every other game.

If an Iowa fan comes up to me and says.... "we smoked you guys this year"...... I'm just going to say.... "yeah, and you got Fran, I win!".
I loved it. I was rolling on the floor laughing screaming "This is why I love Fran!" What a goofball.

I had actually started to think Fran had really buttoned himself up, gotten help, was a changed man etc, because we hadn't seen a tirade like this in some time. I was beyond thrilled to discover he's the same old Fran.

I think Wisconsin might bring it out of him some. He really seems to not like Gard, and I can't say I blame him for that. Gard is pretty much in the same tier as Fran in terms of not-likeable.

I was actually very shocked these two teams lined up for the handshake line at the end of the game. Especially right after Tyler Wahl was waving and blowing kisses to the student section after the buzzer sounded.
