Yep, Iowa was very sloppy with the ball last night and especially Ulis. They need to get that back in the single digits again. They had 18 turnovers. Turning the ball over that much won't generally lead to 20+ point wins like it did for them last night. When you outrebound your opponent and hit 50+% from 3, you can really put some lipstick on a pig.
As good as the defense has looked at times for us this year, one complaint I have is the amount of quality looks we seem to be allowing opponents, especially relative to last year. I think in general our team speed and athleticism is down this year, without Brockington and Hunter. Lipsey has been fine, even good a lot of the time, but he is not Hunter and Holmes has been ok, but a far cry from what Brockington was giving us this time a year ago. There were several times ISU didn't even look like they were attempti g to run off the line.
They looked more like what Iowa gets mocked for.
I do think the shoulder checking will get him in hot water at some point this season. He is sneaky with it, but the refs aren't going to ignore it every time.Connor and Dad are both POS. Patrick doesn’t seem to be. But Connor is always just looking for a fight and trying to be a a**hole. Walking by people and giving them the shoulder, getting in their face, etc, etc. Just a punk.
The rebounding numbers are also skewed by one team making shots and the other not. They had 18 turnovers. Turning the ball over that much won't generally lead to 20+ point wins like it did for them last night. When you outrebound your opponent and hit 50+% from 3, you can really put some lipstick on a pig.
Grill is streaky. I think Gabe is just a bad shooter. And I seriously think a lot of it is mental. It's incredible.Him and Grill are very similar that way. The streakiest shooters I’ve ever seen, but they are hardly ever on. Very rarely.
It was kind of a perfect storm. Iowa hit shots and Iowa State didn't. It really suprised me that iowa seemed to be the aggressors. Iowa state in some ways looked flat for whatever reason. Early on Iowa dominated the boards. Iowa had a good game plan for Iowa states trapping defense too they really made sure to spread court a lot of clearing of sides with cuts to the basket so they couldn't bring the 2nd guy to trap which is something Iowa state is great at. Iowa still had 18 turnovers but it seemed most were in transition. It was really a surprising game in many ways. Over course of 35 games there's always a couple for every team where you just don't bring it. It happensA lot of Iowa's success last night was credit to the spirited effort from Rebraca. They shot an other-wordly % from 3 most of the night too, but Rebraca was a one-man wrecking crew out there. I don't think Ulis is very good and Sandfort kind of stinks, or at least has so far this year. Iowa got the best effort they'll get all year with no Murray in the lineup. Perkins had a tough game, but still went 50% (2/4) from three which is better than he normally does.
Connor was good last night filling in for Kris. He only had one miss where I thought his shot was way off. The other misses just barely missed. His shot arc looks so much better this year with less line drives.
I need not explain myself to Hawk trolls. You will receive no future reminders of this. What's up with calling him that?
Perkins was huge when it counted though, which was the first five minutes of the game.
Totally agree. Iowa has not been a good rebounding team this year. Not that we have been great either, but they did have a lot more opportunities than us last night, and were only +6The rebounding numbers are also skewed by one team making shots and the other not.
Yeah sometime you just have to tip your hat. This was a lot like last years game, just roles reversed. Sucks to be on wrong end of games like this. LOLIt was kind of a perfect storm. Agree completely you could tell by way Iowa was engaged defensively (rare) and the body languages that this game was just more important to 1. I think getting their tails kicked last year helped this year. Also the announcer mentioned Fran was in rivalry mode at shootaround. Iowa came in with a chip on their shoulder. Next year it could flip other way. Unlike the football rivalry the basketball game brings a lot of home team blowoutsYeah sometime you just have to tip your hat. I think Fran is a great motivational coach for all his other flaws. Whether or not Murray was actually unplayable, holding him out last night was huge for the teams psyche last night, and they came out guns blazing. The competitive bar was raised for the other guys who knew they were going to have to take their game up a notch. They answered the call and bum rushed our guys. It took our guys a full 20 minutes to recover and it was far too late at that point. Just gotta flush the toilet and move on from this one as an ISU fan/player/coach etc.
It could flip the other way, but aside from last year, Fran has kind of had Iowa State's number in a big way dating back to the start of the Prohm era. He has really embraced the rivalry. I hope TJ does too, and I was optimistic he would after last year, but less so after last night.Agree completely you could tell by way Iowa was engaged defensively (rare) and the body languages that this game was just more important to 1. Fran wanted to get his 500th against the rival in front of a big crowd. Can’t blame him, but that was fueling him and his kids big time last night. That’s probably peak effort for the Hawks quite honestly.Agree completely you could tell by way Iowa was engaged defensively (rare) and the body languages that this game was just more important to 1. Is Connor gone after this year or will Daddy petition for him a 7th year?Connor and Dad are both POS. Patrick doesn’t seem to be. But Connor is always just looking for a fight and trying to be a a**hole. Walking by people and giving them the shoulder, getting in their face, etc, etc. Just a punk.
He's got a player's option for next year if he wants it or he might hit free agency. Would love to have him back if only to rile up you guys.Is Connor gone after this year or will Daddy petition for him a 7th year?

I know he's not popular here but I think we can all agree he's a good sport, keeps his head down and plays the right way. He's got a player's option for next year if he wants it or he might hit free agency. Would love to have him back if only to rile up you guys.
