Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Connor was good last night filling in for Kris. He only had one miss where I thought his shot was way off. The other misses just barely missed. His shot arc looks so much better this year with less line drives.
I don't know how sustainable his % is, but it does look better and he's pretty selective about when he shoots and what shots to take. He seemed to be forcing some last night when Iowa's offense got a little lethargic down the stretch, but that won't happen often especially when Murray comes back.

The thing with him is that he cannot make contested shots and we let him get wide open looks. Connor is a good enough shooter to make wide open threes
He is. That hasn't always been the case (on wide open 3's) but he's improved as a shooter. There is a reason teams used to not guard him, and some still don't.

Connor very rarely takes a bad shot and usually makes the right play, plays decent defense and rebounds. He is a good steady player for college.

Yep! The defense throughout the whole game was horrible but it started at the beginning of the game. It was Prohm level bad, which is why I doubt we see it become a trend. Lol

Iowa passed it very well and shot it even better. No matter who it's against if Iowa plays that well they will win 99% of the time.

It's easy to sh!t on the defense but Iowa hitting over 50% from the field and over 50% from three makes things look worse than they really are. We got our hands on a lot of balls last night that just didn't lead to turnovers. Even when we had Iowa sped up they were knocking down shots. That isn't going to happen very often.

It’s a product of a ton of experience. There are few things that happen out there that he hasn’t seen before. The big problem will continue to be that he cannot stay in front of an athletic guard when required to do so.

We double-team aggressively, and if the opponent can find the open guy, we will give up some open looks. A lot of times the shooter will hurry the shot, and will miss, but Iowa was making the right passes out of the double-teams and knocking down the shots. Also, we're usually pretty good at closing out on the shooters and forcing them off the 3-point line. We were just a step (or two) slow last night.

The defensive intensity was not up to the standard these guys have set. It was very surprising to see, but it was obvious.

I think teams are learning that you have to keep the ball off of the baseline against ISU. Fine a way to flash a big guy to the elbow area and then kick it out from there. Iowa did that to perfection last night.

A lot of that is is driven by the defense hedging hard to on side and trapping. Typically they can speed teams up enough and even the wide open three's feel pressured. Iowa State is going to pack the lane and take away the drive and make teams shoot a lower percentage shot. Some nights it is going to back fire. I mean Iowa was laying wide open bricks against Duke the other night too.

Iowa went that route several times and got bailed out by tick tack fouls...

I said this last night.. how the hell do you do that on the same shot? And how has that happened 10 times the last two years? He is without a doubt the most mental shooter I’ve ever seen, meaning if his mind is right he’s great and if his mind is anything other than right he’s horrible.

Him and Grill are very similar that way. The streakiest shooters I’ve ever seen, but they are hardly ever on. Very rarely.

There were several times ISU didn't even look like they were attempti g to run off the line.

They looked more like what Iowa gets mocked for.

For sure and I’m quite certain that Kyle Green has anticipated that teams will make that adjustment. I’m sure they will try to adapt.

They had 18 turnovers. Turning the ball over that much won't generally lead to 20+ point wins like it did for them last night. When you outrebound your opponent and hit 50+% from 3, you can really put some lipstick on a pig.
