***CFB Transfer Portal 2022-23 thread***

People keep saying I’m exaggerating NIL offers, nope I talk to the players getting them. When we can offer a max of 30K and the same player can get 300K elsewhere, we’re going to struggle. That’s why our development of high school recruits is going to make or break us. We can win some of the battles with playing time, system, culture, etc but developing players and retaining them is going to be critical.
What amount do you think would be a satisfactory amount that we would need annually to not compete with the big dogs but to compete in our “lane” of p5 schools?

Lots of people in here wanted this

Bad year? Transfer out to get some PT elsewhere!
Good year? Transfer out to cash a check elsewhere!

Boy CFB sure is fun.
But I was told I was overreacting when I said the big schools don't even have to recruit high school kids anymore.

Just wait a year or two while they tryout at schools like Iowa State. Then cherry pick the good players and not even worry anymore about recruiting busts.

I saw Bama has a starting OL in the portal, no one is safe from the madness.

I mean they lost two games. Got to get out if you lose two whole games. I was talking to my mom about Alabama and how their fan base thinks the sky is falling if you lose two games. At Iowa State if we lose two its time to drink and live the good life.

Would be interesting to see how many were getting meaningful play time and how many were buried in the depth charts
While there will be diamonds like say a Devin Leary (a 2022 Heisman hopeful to start the season) or the Alabama OG who has never allowed a sack, I would guess a majority of the portal players will be irrelevant at their next destination.
