Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Just noticed that Garza has been up with the big boys the past week and a half. Played 57 seconds so far this season...no stats to report yet. o_O

He couldn’t crack it with an awful pistons team. He isn’t going to crack it on a mediocre twolves team that’s loaded at front court even with KATs injury.

A lot of you young folks won't remember this, but when Carver Hawkeye Arena was finished and Indiana was came to Iowa City to play in the brand new arena, Jim Zabel, in a press conference, asked Bobby Knight what he thought of playing in the brand new, wonderful arena.

"Felt like the other 40 arenas we played in this year," Knight said.

HAHAHA. Deflated Zabel big time.

I mean, he's right about needing a new arena. Carver Hawkeye is a poorly designed dump. Not sure why you'd want to make it small. Honestly I can't even understand why Texas went as small as they did. That is a huge university with 50k+undergrad enrollment. If any university is suited to fill a 20k+ arena for basketball, it would be them. Fan support has maybe been an issue, but with a new-ish coach and coming off a fairly successful campaign, I'd like to think fans would start coming to games more. Fan support was poor because Shaka had all but killed the program.

They should have done at least 15-16k.
Technically it can sit over 15k, but they curtain off the upper deck. They say it's to keep it intimate, but it's clearly to drive the demand for tickets up so they can make more money. If they were smart, they'd open it up for games that were in higher demand.

The only time that'd happen would be for the Texas Tech game and it'd be Texas Tech fans buying the tickets lol

I'll be able to do a live report from Carver next week! Bringing my yarn and knitting needles to fit in.

I was captivated watching a woman make her walking taco in her lap behind the announcers of the ISU-ND game last night.

We need to rename this thread. There is no "tough" day for Iowa hoops, I'm convinced. Look how dismal the B1G mens basketball is. Wisconsin is down, Michigan State down, B1G West as usual is one of the worst in the P6. Two teams that look the best, Purdue and Maryland, they play the Hawkeyes just once, I swear they get that advantage every season. All they have to be is mediocre and they will win at least 20 games and go dancing. Because ESPN will tell us 1,000 times how tough that conference is when it clearly is not. They are all easy days for EIU Hoops, or so it appears IMO.

#2 vs. #7 tonight and they're not opening the top in Austin.

Texas never has any basketball fans. I remember our '00 team played them and we were both ranked highly. They gave everybody who went to the baseball game a free ticket and still nobody came.

ESPN is not going to be beating that drum. Maybe Fox, but not ESPN.
