Because Angie is out this week. I was asked to fill in for the Friday OT thread.

I tend to remember things/events in reference to ISU events/games ,etc. Does anybody else do this? Example: I bought my car the day that Iowa State beat TCU back in 2019. I was watching the game on the TV in the dearlership showroom while the paperwork was process.

What things do you tend to remember because of an ISU game or event?

I remember the Eustachy firing drama during an important finals week for me. As a basketball nut I was sucked into it.

I was bar hopping and drinking heavily when Iowa State beat #2 Oklahoma State. Didn't see that one coming. Last time men's basketball won in the PHOG, I was drunk (again) on the BRR ride. Everyone in the bar went nuts.

Football vs KU in '05. One the first times I heard my old man drop an f bomb (and several were used).

Okie State Paul Rhoads Special in 2011. My college roommates (UNI) were throwing a rager of a party in the house and in the middle of it all was me sitting in the living room watching the magic unfold. I remember towards the end, the party had mostly taken a pause as most in attendance had stopped to watch as well. I don't remember much of what happened after the game, but woke up with my hair dyed red.

After we beat Iowa with five field goals, my friends and I went back to the apartment to drink and celebrate. One friend got hammered and suggested we go see the movie Superbad at the theatre. After the movie was over, my friend walked outside and puked in front of the movie theatre while a bunch of people waited in line to get tickets. The other friend joked "I didn't think the movie was that bad!"

Every time I think about or watch the movie Superbad, I'm reminded of Shaggy making five field goals to beat Iowa.

The game against top 5 Kansas State in 2012 after we had just beaten a top 10 or 15 TCU on the road.

My dad was in palliative for his cancer and we were debating hospice. He asked me to come visit over that KState weekend. He’s also an alum. Several of my aunts and uncles came, and we all watched the game on a tiny TV in my Dad’s room. Disappointing finish to a game on a very sad weekend.

It was the only home game I missed during my 4 years but it was worth it as it was one of the last times I got to hang out with my dad while he was still all the way there. He passed 6 months later.

Probably not the direction you or Angie intended but it’s a game seared into my brain for obvious reasons

My wife and I were buying our first home and I went out one beautiful Saturday morning to shop for lawn mowers. I had plans to go over and watch the ISU-Iowa game with my new in-laws that day, while my wife was working. As I was shopping I remember dreading what would almost certainly be the 16th consecutive loss to the Hawkeyes. Little did I know...

I've told this before, but was at a wedding the day of the win at OU with Kyle Kempt at QB.

Checked score before going into the church. We were down something like 17-3. I thought, "well at least we're not going to get skunked." Came out of the church and checked score again - noticed it was a 7 point game. My brother, looking over my shoulder, pointed out that it was a 7 point game... and ISU was AHEAD! Drove home to relax while they did pictures between the ceremony and the reception. Finally got an update that ISU had just scored again to regain the lead with like a minute and a half to go. I positioned my nut cup for the length of the field touchdown drive and inevitable loss in OT. Only to find out the defense held and ISU won in regulation.

I spent a lot of the evening checking CF and the national sports feeds for celebrations and stories. Will always remember that day/wedding.

My wedding day was actually the day of Cy-Hawk game in 2019. We even had the game playing at our reception of probably 70/30 Hawk to Cyclone fan ratio. Not really what I choose to remember about our special day, to say the least.

Bruh who chooses that weekend for a wedding in Iowa though? I’m assuming you got some good deals?

My brother got married the day of the Iowa State/Iowa game in 2014. the wedding was actually scheduled for a different date but their reception venue closed and they had to find a new location. Of course, that date was the only date most venues had available.

Hosted a watch party in the front lawn of The Beach House across from Jack Trice that day. We expected to be drinking away our sorrows in the second half. Instead we kept the party going so we could run down to the stadium and greet the team buses when they came back from Iowa ******.

It was an oversight. Didn't check the football schedule prior to scheduling, like a noob. Once we found out I tried to get it changed, but I was overruled by the Mrs. who had already done too much booking/planning.

I had a job interview on Friday November 17, 2011 in a town over 400 miles away from home. The next day I drove around a bit to get more of a feel of the area, but in the end decided that the place wasn't for me and hit the road a little after lunchtime.
Anyways, it's about an 8 hour drive back, and I'll never forget drinking straight from a jug of milk while driving and listening to the OK State game as it went in to overtime right when I was getting home.
Went inside to listen to the end, and if I wasn't so tired I probably would have gotten back in my car to get to Ames to join the party.
