Down goes Iowa

Who are Iowa's recruits?
Bowen looks like he'll be a solid player for them but I wouldn't count on him contributing very much next year, probably similar to Lipsey in playing time.
Other than that all they have is Dix from Council Bluffs I think. He was a solid player but I think he had some injury issues so is a shell of himself now.

Now I'm hearing no more Sunday championship games, team was too tired...Big 10 has to do something about that.

And, had Jack Nunge stuck around.....they make a run at the NC.

Dix had a terrible injury late this season. He can probably come back and be good, but it is going to take some time. I am not sure on his timeline but I doubt he plays next year.

To me, this is amazingly similar to the ISU team that lost to UAB. Offensively gifted team that made a crazy run through the conference tournament. Only to flame out with bad shooting in the first round of the NCAA. Conference tournaments are fun as hell, but it takes a lot out of a team to make that kind of run. Especially when you're not a blue blood that is blowing teams out with way better talent.

Best Twitter excuse from a Hawkeye fans was the reason they shot a miserable 26% from trey was because of the new Wilson Basketballs - not used during the season :)

Also, I will not be surprised at all if CMac and Rebraca (sp?) return. That could give them decent front line optins: PMac, CMac, Rebr, CMurray, Sandfort.
Perkins wasn’t very good yesterday but he was good the last half of the season. PMac can be good on offense but sucks on defense. Kris will be pretty good.

But in the end it will be the same for them. Fran will have them scoring points, the KenPom dorks will love them again as they roll up huge margins against Western Michigan and Northwestern, and throw out that zone press against bench scrubs when they are way behind to make games close. But when it comes time where they need to come through in a tough game they will fold. It’s just what they are.

I laughed way too hard at this. 99 was my sophomore year at ISU, and am officially old enough to remember that S16 as Tom Davis’s last game. Had not been announced he was gone yet but everyone knew it was coming. Fan base was ready to “take the next step”…
Die hard clone here. Tom Davis was a good coach and person. Really stupid of iowa to let him go, especially to replace him with that arrogant prick Alford.

hi i only watched one time this year when we kicked there ass will not waste my time but was thinking who would you pick first fizer or murrury

Thus showed up on my my Facebook news feed this morning. Enjoy.View attachment 96862

The committee bent over and greased themselves up for the Big 10 this year, that league has no complaints. The really funny thing is no else in the big 10 will care that Iowa got beat. Most I've seen are enjoying it.

The really funny low key things about Iowa's big 10 tourney run was that bumping up seeds got them sent to Buffalo, while we (and a team like Michigan) got really short trips as higher seeds. I know several Hawk fans that went to Indy last weekend, I don't know anyone who went to Buffalo. Most were banking on Chicago next week.

Keys to creating a fake ID:
  • Play one of the softest non-conference schedules in the nation.
  • Have an unbalanced conference schedule which loads up on bottom feeders.
  • As mentioned above, slap a zone press on the other team's reserves during the final minutes to reduce the margin of defeats, and then be credit with gutsy comebacks.

Outside of Keegan all those losses should be replaceable. Presuming there aren't significant transfers out I'd bet on Iowa being NCAA tournament team again next year. Probably more on the 8-10 line.

IMO it will all boil down to who they beat. If they play a dog nuts non con again next year they will have some work to do in conference because there is now way they will have the offensive efficiency numbers they had this year.

I don't think Kris is that much worse than Keegan. I think Kris isn't playing this year that much for the same reason Keegan didn't play as much last year. Gotta get minutes for the kids.

I guarantee most coaches would have found a way to have a core starting lineup that included Garza, Weiskamp and Keegan Murray at the same time last year.

There's zero doubt in my mind that Fran selfishly slow played Kris's minutes so he wouldn't potentially lose them both. With that being said, Kris doesn't have the same game as his brother. He isn't nearly as fluid off the bounce or with his back to the basket, he's more of a shooter.

Just finished watching the 1st half. Can't believe how many bunnies the Spiders missed. Saw 10 points left off the board. Also, post play is much tougher in the B12. Not sure which translates better to the NBA. Admittedly, this is only the 2nd time I've seen Keegan all year, but just doesn't seem 'tough'. Definitely not like Garza. Two very bad calls against Iowa (ie Bohannan all ball, and blockout under basket) and a couple of stupid fouls (which all teams have). Other than that pretty consistent officiating. Great Spidy D (2 consecutive clock violations). Minus under the bucket shots, shooting was not just off, but way off ... for the most part for both teams.

What little I have watched, Keegan’s defense is bad. Not sure if it’s just a keep him out of foul trouble thing or it’s just bad.
