As good as this year has been

Suriano and Wick on this team and you're talking about 3 finalists with a chance for 7 AAs (adding in 141, 149, 184, 197). Would've been a top 3 team. Hopefully the staff can land some transfers this fall to fill some of the holes in the lineup

Just imagine suriano and Wick in this lineup?

And it was close to happening, really close.

The phone is going to be burning up in late March.

if it hasn’t started already. ; )

So those of you in the know.....just how close was either one of these guys coming and where did we get beat at on why they went elsewhere? Also, Gomez at 133 would be a really fun one to have back as well.

Gomez will never, ever see 133 again. We would've had 3 studs at 149 to start the year. Wick is from Cali and his brother is now a Freshman there - one of the big deciding factor I'd assume. Also worth nothing, Tristan Moran is a volunteer at Cal Poly now, he was on the Wisconsin squad with Evan and they could be close.

Man if I could have stolen a kid from Bono’s squad it would have been Dean Hamiti. The kid is top 5 at that weight this year and will likely be at 174 next year, filling needed gaps going forward. I don’t know if we recruited him or not but we should have.

That is true about Gomez...didn't really think of that. Did he just get burnt out here or were our doctors not willing to let him continue after his concussion issues?

Agree but I have to think he would be a ton more effective at 141. His upside at 49 is limited by his lack of length.

From what I’ve heard there weren’t many options for him. He couldn’t get cleared to wrestle again here and also heard some other places wouldn’t clear him but i don’t know the truth to those things. What is true is he couldn’t get cleared to wrestle as a cyclone again

Illinois kid who turned it on his senior year. He was an absolute stud his senior year and I’m sure that Reader should get some credit for his current development.

Ya that's not even close to being accurate.

Three-time Illinois state champion (2018, 2019, 2020) and was heavily favored for a fourth title, but tournament was canceled due to COVID. ISU recruited him, just never got any traction.

I don’t follow Illinois in high school. I meant nationally. Was he nationally ranked those other years?

Don't follow rankings but he was a big time recruit and known in the community. 2020 Super 32 champion. 2019 Fargo national champion.

He was a 3 time champ, would have been 4 timer if he had gotten to wrestle his senior year. Super 32 champ. Fargo champion in 2019. It wasn’t just his senior year.

According to Flo, Hamiti was the #6 P4P recruit in the 2021 class. Drake Ayala was #5 for comparison.

Yeah I wonder if Bono just out recruited Cael and Brands? My point was he turned it on his Sr year and won Super 32s and became a more known name. Chance to be a true freshman AA at a loaded weight. Definitely give credit to Bono and Reader for finding a guy and getting him to wrestle to his talent

Found the article on flo

DJ Hamiti sits at #6 and should be a big piece for Bono and company at Wisconsin. His dominance at Super 32 this fall propelled him into the consciousness of most wrestling fans, and he's continued to be outstanding since then.
