As good as this year has been

We tried to get Hamiti. Not sure if a top 5 was ever released, but I am pretty sure we paid him a visit shortly after initial visits were allow

I’ve known about Hamiti since he was in grade school due to him being my son’s age and weight. I predict top three for him this year. Would not surprise me if he was champ.

I'm not sure how close we were to landing him but I'll add in another Cornell wrestler in Julian Ramirez at 165

Agree but I have to think he would be a ton more effective at 141. His upside at 49 is limited by his lack of length.

Pure speculation on my part but I have to think the increased susceptibility to concussions caused by weight cuts has something to do with him being at 149.

Yeah I wonder if Bono just out recruited Cael and Brands? My point was he turned it on his Sr year and won Super 32s and became a more known name. Chance to be a true freshman AA at a loaded weight. Definitely give credit to Bono and Reader for finding a guy and getting him to wrestle to his talent
Based on how Bono recruited Ben Askren I'm always surprised when he lands great talent like Hamiti.

I know Bono has got a reputation out there, but no one should be surprised that he can get some high level talent. If you thrive in his style (which is certain NOT everyone), he's proven to be a pretty dang good coach.

Having Reader as his right hand man also is big deal. Reader is a stud coach/recruiter in my opinion and I don't why he hasn't gotten a head coaching job already. Plus those two were with the Junior world team this past summer. Certain a big part of how they recently landed James Rowley.

On Hamiti, I could be wrong but I think he was ~#40 on flow big board and #3 at 145lb when he commited to Wisconsin back in Sept of 2019. He was always a tall/long guy for his weight and he really filled out and jumped levels over his Junior/Senior year. So he was definitely on the national radar, but was more like a Top 50 guys until later in his high school career when he flew up to the top of the board.

You’re right. In April of 2018, he wasn’t on the big board (Flo) of the top 100 recruits. On the April 2019 edition he was at #49. Then by May 21 had jumped to #6.

I had the same thought at the start of the season. Turns out Gomez is just good no matter where he’s at. Would have been an upgrade for us at 41 or 49.

Counting chickens before they've hatched I see. I hope JD makes the CRTC a lot of $ in Detroit. I still like what I'm seeing out of him.

Huge Degen fan here, so this is not a knock on him at all, but Gomez just won big 10s beating the returning NCAA finalist. In my wildest dreams Degen will never be at that level.

Hope he catches fire and makes the podium again.

People talk about DC going to 165 next year. I question that. He doesn't seem to be a massive cut to 157 at this point.

I’ve heard him mention the cut before. Also O’Toole isn’t that big and he’s doing just fine at 165. David has aspirations of Olympic gold and isn’t scare of competition. It will make him better going up to a challenge.

I would never question his ability to compete at any weight. I wouldn't bet against him at 197 most times. Maybe he does want to just be able to relax and not worry about weight, I definitely can understand that.

Two things: I believe David has said publicly more than once he’s going to 65 (of course that could change). Also, I think David and Deakin both are better than any guy in the country at either weight. That match is could be an all timer.

Carr is going 165 according to Carr and Dresser. Couple pretty good sources. Yes, Gomez has 2 years left if he wants to use them.
