The Fran fade

If Ohio State is a TOp 20 team...then ISU is a #1 seed.

Ohio state guards are atrocious...lmao.

Their D is awful. Iowa just blowing them off ball on nearly every posseesion.

So I decided to look at Ohio State schedule....

They looked good in December..Somehow this Ohio state team beat Duke and Wisconsin. No idea how watching this game.

Since January though their best win is Michigan..rest of teams they beat were all terrible...NW, Maryland, etc..

Good win for Iowa on road...Might have saved their season.

I can totally see Iowa losing at home now to Mich st..next. lol.

Michigan State is in freefall. But I think Izzo gets them focused and wins rather convincingly, despite it being "Garza Day' or whatever the **** they're doing that night in the morgue.

It’s awesome because come post season time he’ll be taking that shot hitting nothing but backboard but hey, he’ll always have the “dagger” 3 to put in the record book alongside his sportsmanship award and being the best “interior post passer” in the nation
Connor Mac undisputed master of the bounce pass.

Watching the Hoks this year makes last year's performance even more bizarre. This same team with NPOY was no better. The cupcake non con schedule helped a bunch.

Npoy year and Wieskamp. Arguably the two best players they had this century. Non con was easy, after the first couple weeks of big 10 play, they got a really nice conference draw as well.

You have to give the Hawks credit when it’s due and that win at Ohio St was big. It’s their only good conference win so far. Prior to yesterday if their remaining games went chalk they would have finished 9-11 with all 9 wins against the bottom half of the conference and 0 against the top half. 7 against bottom-feeders Minnesota, Northwestern, Maryland and Nebraska. I don’t care what their NET is that should never put you in the tournament. Now they are likely in even if they lose the remaining tough games. IMO 10-10 with that B1G schedule and their terrible non-con schedule should earn a 10 or 11 seed this year and the NIT most years.

How is the transfer they picked up this year? The one from Iowa - Ash.
Looking at their stat sheet, not a lot. Played 20 minutes the last 5 games combined, ave. 2.3 points and 0.3 rebounds on the season.

The Rebraca kid is having a decent year, 6.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, a little more than Conditt is average in both categories at 5.1 and 3.8.

The Murray kid is a fun player to watch, last time I looked he was 3rd in the nation in scoring, also about 8 rebounds a game. He struggles when teams get up in his grill like ISU did instead of playing off of him.

They have some decent talent, but struggle with Fran's coaching, and sub packages, plus playing his oldest boy way, way too many minutes per game. The kid that I wish ISU had is the Stanford kid out of Waukee, good 3 point shooter for a freshman and decent size, he is only going to get better, of course Fran plays his kids in front of him, which has slowed his development on the season.

I don't sing his praises too often here because I know this board despises him but Connor was pretty big yesterday. He really settled us down and played tough defense when early on it looked like a layup line for Ohio State. You're right Frans rotations this year have limited this team. I hope a light went off yesterday because there was a lot more joe, uhlis, and Kris and it really showed defensively. Hopefully Sandfot is a package deal with his brother

Meh

Congrats on your first Q1 win. Now you are no longer the only team in the top 35 without a Q1 win, you are merely the only team in the top 35 with only one Q1 win.

Think it will be a sellout at CHA tomorrow? I thought they already retired the Garza jersey, or are they now retiring his warmup jacket? They can stretch this on for years, next will be his shorts, then his warmup pants, then his shoes and hopefully they will stop there

edit: my bad, I forgot about Houston. Two teams.

I find it hard to believe that the smart folks who care about Iowa basketball aren’t looking for some type of amicable escape from the Fran era. His high skill low athleticism roster make for a high floor but a low ceiling for his program. That’s why apathy is setting in. The best thing that could happen for that program is for Fran to leave and DeVries to step in. That’s a dream job for Darian and he would come in highly motivated. He’s a guy who knows how to get the players needed to compete T the highest level. I really hope this scenario doesn’t play out.

They over exceeded in the non-con and are now crashing back down to earth. Very similar to some of Fran's teams that limped into the tourney.
Looking really stupid now, Fran has instilled the short cut method of ******** when things don't go your way that's blows up in his face year after year because the don't take responsibility for their shortcomings and do nothing to change it. TJ has turned a two win team into a tournament possibility.

, wish there was a cringe reaction. Don't call down the thunder.

This seems like a premature touchdown dance. I love that we played two good games in a row and like the trend, but the lack of offensive adjustment/ results were boggling for too long to be sure it's behind us.

We can only hope at this point that things continue out of the funk.

My dad is Iowa grad and I watch games with him. The Hawks are a fun team to watch. Fran is not a very good defensive coach, but his teams are very solid on offense. They do a great job in getting cutters and dribble penetration to the basket.

The other thing he has done a great job of doing is recruiting length. If Prohm is the PG whisperer, then Fran is the post player whisperer. He has gotten great production with not highly recruited big men during his time at Iowa.

Would love for TJ to recruit length to the Clones roster over the next couple years. There are people on this board who like to criticize players like Payton Sandfort, but I love 6'6"+ wings that can shoot 3 pointers.

Can sandfort play defense?

Yeah I for one do not want to follow Fran’s model of recruiting. If you’re talking generally in that you want TJ to recruit length, fine, but we’re bringing in a 6’8” freshman next year who can fill it from deep and a 6’8” stretch 4 transfer from Georgetown. He’s also brought in Enaruna and Kunc who are both long and skilled.

TJ threw together this roster in 60 days and beat Fran’s instilled recruiting efforts of 12 years by 20. Lol

My comments weren't an indictment of TJ's recruiting. In fact, I am hoping that Watson can be that 6'6"+ wing who can shoot a high % of jumpers, defend and rebound. IMO the more 6'5" to 6'7" guys on the roster who can play the 2/3 positions the better. TT is a great example of what I would like TJ to recruit.

Kunc and Enaruna are nice players- but both are post players. If we are looking for comparable Cyclones I would like TJ to load up on- I would point to Clyburn, Nadar and Shayok. I might throw Hogue in there as well, but he might have been more a small-ball 4.

How about getting McCafe and McCafe no-fat type players? Is that what you want?
