The Fran fade

Love when the small penis brigade runs over here. You guys gave your coach 11 years to turn it around but TJ is supposed to do it in one?

TJ has done a decent job thus far. Will see how he finishes up this year, but so far this is a classic Fran Fade season.

TJ did good in non-con, has done poorly in conference is what he has done. I don't think we have had a winning record in the conference all season. Lack of offensive options is what is killing him.

They over exceeded in the non-con and are now crashing back down to earth. Very similar to some of Fran's teams that limped into the tourney.

Fran fade got a breather this year with a light end of January/February schedule. Also got almost a full week off with the Ohio State game getting postponed

The offense so far has been tough to watch during conference games. Every team in the B12 plays solid D. Worst Kenpom rated D is #40. There are 11 B1G teams rated worse defensively than #40.

If you can't create shots in the B12 you're in a world of hurt, and we are hurting.

That was several years into Fran's program though.

If the same thing is happening in 3-4 years with TJ and not even getting into the tournament then a change needs to be made.

You saying that you're not giving TJ 11 years to turn it around. I guess the other question is, has Fran turned Iowa around officially? Or are we running year 12 or 13 on the turnaround effort?

IMO, Fran's tenure is pretty similar to Alford's.

Fran has had an NCAA tournament caliber team 6 of the last 8 years. He might have 7 of the last 9 years if he keeps it up this year. I want higher success for sure, but lets not act like he hasn't done at least a decent job thus far.

I'm goin to give TJ a break this year for several reasons:

1) It's his first year, getting hired with no time to recruit.
2) He's working with mostly transfers from other programs and trying to get them to gel together.
3) He only has 1 legit Big 12 Player (Brockington), with Hunter getting there.
4) This team does not and cannot shoot the ball well.
5) Plays in the toughest conference in the nation.

That being said... 7 conference wins and they are guaranteed to get in the NCAA tournament. Time will tell if he is the answer long term as a coach.

Man has Fran been there for 11 years?

That's a whole lot of something but actually nothing happening. Sad that their program is only known for his outbursts and dirty players.

Fran also plays an easier schedule so he should have teams capable of making the NCAA tournament. That being said his post season success is rather disappointing.

Yeah they've had some good teams...sounds like many could take or leave him which I think says something.

And they keep giving him contract extensions. Barta and the fans seem content with that level of play.

The fans or the players? I haven't heard much if any negative feedback from any of the players. Seems like most of them like him a lot.

He has done an ok job. Definitely not great, maybe not even 'good'. Getting Iowa to the tournament is great, but he really has yet to field a roster built to win in March or seriously compete for the Big 10 title. Including last years juggernaut that flopped miserably.

He hasn't laid a giant Prohm sized egg yet in his career at Iowa. It's easy to fire a coach after they go winless in league play. You could have maybe fired Fran after the 17-18 season, but since then he has had some good teams so not sure that would have been the right move at that time anyways in hindsight.
