Yellowstone - new TV "western"

The people frequently complaining about a show they choose to watch.

God forbid some nuance be recognized on this website...

If I was truly "angry" about Yellowstone, I would stop watching it. I already wrote that I will watch the season finale and that I might even watch next season. If I'm truly angry about something I watch and despise, I'll go to Facebook and rip on it to my family and friends, like I did with Wonder Woman 1984 at this time last year.

I like the show and I agree that season 4 has been a let down. I don't get the obsession with this show though. A lot of my family think it's the greatest show of all time. There were even a couple Yellowstone themed gifts exchanged at Christmas.

I wasn't even talking about you with my post but now you do seem angry.

Got the DVR set up to record this and with the marathon this weekend, it finally recorded the first season. Almost done with the first episode and I’m enjoying it so far.

The calf pulling scene was nowhere close to accurate though. Gonna have to hold that against them.;)

I thought last night's season finale was a lot better than the episodes leading up to it. Not really much for cliff hangers other than what did Kayce see on his vision quest and what happens with Jamie now. Figured Will Patton was not going to wind up being a long running character on the show but had hoped for more scenes with him.

Looks pretty obvious they have setup Jimmy (Jefferson White) to be part of the 6666 spinoff that is rumored. Was pretty neat to see him come back to the ranch with some confidence. Hopefully that is the last we see of Mia too, her character has run its course and become annoying.

IMO - they’ve written Beth’s character to be unnecessarily cruel to the child she rescued.

I'm guessing it's exactly how John treated Rip at that age and look at what Rip became, fiercely loyal and appreciative of everything.

Its a setup, rip and beth will adopt him in the end. As for Jamie, he is screwed. Cant wait to see how that plays out.

Yeah I agree with this too. We've already seen Rip and John warm up to him, it's only a matter of time until Beth does. She still pretty jaded about Jamie taking away the ability to have kids along with the loss of her own mother too. Have a feeling there will come a time when Rip asks her about having kids and she has to tell him about that and the obvious will be why not just adopt Carter.

As for Jamie, I wonder now that Beth has more dirt on him that if he wants to run for governor they come to an agreement that John will not run and Jamie will be protecting the interests of the ranch going forward if he wants to stay in an elected office. He basically chose the Dutton family over his own biological dad now so don't see how he could do anything else at this point.

She could definitely soften her approach but what she said to him last night is true and she even lumped herself into that same category.
Felt the scene was a contradiction to when she first brought Carter home and her response to Rip when he asked who's kid he was.

Yeah that does make sense. I kind of wondered if the shock of hearing him say that for the first time wasn't just a little too much for her so that is how she responded.

I watched it last night and thought it was a decent episode as well, certainly better than the penultimate episode, but I'm still on the fence as to whether I'll watch Season 5 or not.

The Kayce/vision quest storyline is still ludicrous, and I hope they get it figured out and end it sooner rather than later. I ended up really liking the Jimmy storyline most of all this season, even if it was more of a promotion of the upcoming show more than anything else. I've really enjoyed that character development. Had he picked Mia instead of Emily though I would have turned it off right then and there.

On a semi-related note to Mia I really found there to be a noticeable lack of likeable female characters this season; Beth is...well, Beth. Monica went from being tough yet vulnerable and sympathetic to being a passive aggressive shrew with her reaction to Kayce talking to the other Native American babe, Avery, for all of 5 minutes during the season. Mia is immature and erratic, and Jimmy was completely right to dump her for the aforementioned Emily (and credit to him for doing it the right way). Summer Higgins I think can be a cool character moving forward if they bring her back, but she didn't get enough screen time to really make anything other than an initial impression. The only female character I ended up really rooting for is, again, Emily.

Jamie is a flawed character and certainly not without his share of faults, but as a viewer I am getting really tired of him always coming out the loser, especially since it seems like Beth is almost always coming out ahead, and often times at his expense. I don't know how that is going to work moving forward with him, but I hope they change the dynamic there. And speaking of Beth I hope they follow up on the conflict between her and the other queen bee of Market Equities. Again, I hope Beth starts to feel some consequences of her actions here, as it seems like she never does, even if Market Equities are the heavies here.

In the end, it seems to me like Season 4 served as a medium to promote the other branches of the franchise more than anything else. Disappointing season overall, although the finale was decent.

The kid, who plays the kid, can act.

He absolutely can.

I think it's pretty clear by now that I don't care for Beth the character, but Kelly Reilly, in addition to being nice and easy on the eyes, is an exceptional actress. I don't think shows like "Yellowstone" or the people on shows like it get much recognition when it comes to Emmys, but I think she deserves a nomination for best Actress or Supporting Actress.
