UNI MBB Steep Decline

You might want to do some research. The 2019 - 2020 team was 25 - 6 and MVC regular season champions.

That's why I'm surprised they're struggling. I think the talent is there is be better than they've shown so far. Schedule was set up to have a strong resume, but other than St. Bonnies, they've lost the games against strong mid-major teams. Home games

Yeah give me their conference records for 2017 until this year. Also they wouldn’t have made the tourney that year because they choked in the conference tournament. So yeah get on that research.
Good grief. He led his team to the conference title just two years ago! Are you coach Wooden?

Jacobsen actually has been even worse than I thought. One winning season the last five years, not just winning conference record but overall. In the MVC.

UNI was the regular season Champions...Bradley won the tournament.

Which one gets the NCAA tournament bid?

And also just to clarify, you think a coach with one winning season in his last five is doing a great job?

Hiring some one from a staff that’s led them to one winning conference record in five years doesn’t seem like a great move. Especially when the only winning season was due to a recruit who he happened to be the father of.

Also lol at Jacobsen getting the Minnesota job. Maybe six years ago he was a candidate for a job like that.

I'm not advocating for it. Just repeating what I heard from someone very close to to program up there. Green is very well thought of in CF.

And he got an interview. I have no idea how close he was to getting the job.

Jake was offered Minnesota. The money was insulting. They're only paying Ben Johnson $1.4M.

If he were to leave, it's either Kyle Green or Seth Tuttle with a slight lean towards Tuttle.

There's lots of reasons the UNI program is where it is right now and the only one you can really point at Jake is gross over scheduling.

He lost the Iowa and ISU games. He probably felt he needed to replace them with P6 teams.

That's certainly part of it. The other part is the losses the Valley has had and he's, rightly, insistent that he's going to have an at large worthy schedule every year and you absolutely have to load up in November/December to do that.

But you just can't log the miles we do. Fayetteville. Olean, NY. Huntington, WV. Honolulu. Especially when the worst team you play at home is Top 150.

Are the late-season Bracket Busters games still a thing?

Nope. Ended in 2013-14.

ESPN, like they do with everything, made it too big and there was no value left in it for the Valley, A10 and Mountain West because there were so many terrible teams in the pool.

We got some really good games out of it. Old Dominion, VCU, Nevada, Bucknell, Siena for the first time Fran got the boot in Cedar Falls. Two games in the McLeod Center and he didn't see the end of either one

I agree Jacobson hasn't done much the last 5 years. One good year record wise, and they choked in the MVC tournament which is all that matters now in the MV.

But Green has had a lot of success there, and if Iowa St has a lot of success with him as top assistant, he should be at the top of their list. This isn't a wealthy HM we're talking about.

The Valley has a non-conference scheduling rule similar to the SEC- the 3 year average of your non-cons for a season must be top half of the 350 DI's is what the SEC's rule is- the Valley's is very similar. So if you schedule a 325, you're also scheduling a 25-30. The league instituted it a few years ago to push to be more than a 1 bid league. Jake has maybe taken it a step further than necessary to be within the league criteria. Don't think any other leagues use this.

I don’t think uni, and Jake has ever truly recovered from A&M. It’s sad. I have gone to a couple uni things with a cousin, and Jake is a damn good man.
I root for him, and uni basketball. Farley is a jerk, don’t care about him.

but man, they lose games in the most unfortunate ways. There is just no clutch gene in that program anymore. That mvc tournament game against Bradley two years ago felt kind of like the end.

i think Jake is a good coach, I think the uni ad is cursed
