Tre King (Georgetown transfer)

Is he 6-9 or 6-7? I've seen both mentioned on here.

I don't expect him to come in and be the 2nd coming of Marcus Fizer, but if he can give us 5 fouls, a few rebounds/putbacks, and is a guy that can use his mid-range game on the elbows or in the short corner when teams throw a zone at us, I think he could be a good fit by the time February and March roll around. I'll leave the chemistry aspect up to TJ.

Exactly King doesn't have to be. ISU lost 2 potential post options in Foster and Hinson in the fall who were suppose to be contributors. Conditt is a risk for fouls, not to mention that Kunc had an injury coming into the year and judging by his play will have some worrisome falls as the season progresses. For all those reason it forced Jones into a bigger role than the staff wanted for him right now. I appreciate Roberts effort but he has some limitations that have been seen.

TJ and the staff have built a relationship with King and his family and have prioritized him. I have 0 concerns about Tre coming in and causing chemistry issues. TJ preaches playing as a team and has already shown only taking/keeping players who are bought in. Tre will have a clear role on this team one that appeals to him. I don't think it'll be as a starter but there are ~25 minutes available at the PF/C he can easily get and contribute at a B12 Level.

How many open spots do we have for next year then? Johnson, Foster, and Hinson are 3 spots. Then covid returners don't count against the roster spots right? So Conditt, Gabe, and Brockington's spots are open without possibly losing them? Or am I extremely confused right now?
Brockington being a 5th year guy already is the only one I've heard (on CF) not planning to return. That leaves us full less attrition. Current speculation there I'd put at one more opening for next year.

Since there have been all these comparisons to Jeff Beverly and Jeff Beverly was a pretty good football player prior to coming to ISU and ISU has a need for defensive ends next year, my question is, "Can Tre King play defensive end next year?"

I know there's been some consternation back-and-forth about this but...

...assuming the NCAA doesn't give a waiver...

King would be eligible after the fall semester of 2022 (same as McKay and Burton back in the day) and be able to play what amounted to roughly 75% of the season for Iowa State in 22-23?

And after that, he'd be out of eligibility?

So he's almost like a sit-one, play-one Shayok sort of transfer?

I think this is exactly right. Since he was hired, TJ seems to have been looking for players with some very specific character traits that will buy into his style of play. Otherwise Bolton and Hinson would be in our starting lineup.

Are we shocked that the guy who put together the first bunch of transfers that turned the program around for Fred put together the group of transfers to turn the program around for himself? It's money ball. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. And TJ got some coaching help with Kyle Green. Maybe there was a plan after all.

That’s worst-case scenario. He started in 18-19 and is currently in his fourth year. Since we’re temporarily in the “5 to play 6” era, I think he could play next spring (23) and the following season (23-24) if desired.

Thank you.

I would hope for a waiver for either sooner or longer.

But at least I've got my expectations set on the minimum correctly, I think.

He'd have another year after next.

Someone in another thread explained it well. You get 4 non-COVID years to play. He's played in 2 of those. So could redshirt this year and have 2 more to play afterwards.
