Is it only Paramount+ ? Was hoping I could watch it on ESPN+ but hadn't thought much about it until now.

Doesn't look like it from what I can find.

What record do we need in the second half to be get a spot in the WC?

They went 4-1-2 in the first half for 14 points. Mexico has 14 too, Canada has 12 and Jamaica has 11. Top 3 get in and the 4th goes to a playoff. To be assured of a spot they'll need to do the same, but I would think 24 points should get in, so 10 points (3-3-1) should be okay.

EDIT: Panama is #4, not Jamaica - they only have 6 points.

Of course, beating the current #4 team on the road would be a HUGE boost.

One other thing to consider is that they have 4 road games against 4 good teams left (Mexico, Canada, Jamaica and Costa Rica) and 3 home games again the bottom 3 teams.

It's really really hard to win on the road in qualifying, so those 3 home games are must wins, then they need to get a point or two from the 4 road games

I believe it’s Panama with 11 points. Jamaica with 6.

My initial reaction when looking at the table is that we need 10 more points to be comfortably top 3. 3 points today would go along way towards securing that.

Especially with road games against Canada and Mexico still to come. Do not underestimate the possibility of getting 0 points out of those two. Probably just 1 point.

We also have home games against Honduras and El Salvador remaining. Those are probably even more important in that if we don't get 6 points from them we could be in trouble.

I'm not too worried, even with 2018 qualifying still in recent memory.

I am a closet USA in the world cup fan. But I don't entirely understand what it takes to qualify. Can you give the ELI5 version?

It's a bit different this time around. CONCACAF (the confederation for north and central America) has 35 teams. 8 compete in the final round: the top 5 by world FIFA rankings, and 3 of the remaining 30 who emerge from playing each other.

The 5 byes went to: Mexico, USA, Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Honduras. The 3 who won their way in were Canada, El Salvador, and Panama.

So now the 8 teams in the final round play each of the other 7 home and away, for a total of 14 qualifying games. You get 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and 0 for a loss. At the end, the top 3 point getters make the World Cup, and the 4th place team goes into a separate inter-confederation playoff where teams from all over the world that just missed out on qualifying play each other for the last few World Cup spots.

So USMNT's goal is to finish in the top 3 of this 8-team tourney right now. Halfway through, we are tied for 1st with 14 points. Mexico also has 14, and Canada has 13. Panama has 11, and no one else has more than 6. We are in very good shape to avoid falling out of the top 4, but we would really rather stay in the top 3 to avoid that second playoff against non-CONCACAF teams.
