Finally headed to Eternals tonight @ 7 pm. After reading all you guy's thoughts as well as other ones on the internet, I still remain weirdly excited/not excited at the same time. Guess it is just one of those I will have to hope for the best, but expect the worst.

I feel like that's pretty much the total Eternals experience in whatever format they appear.

Just curious if any of you regular nerds on here happen to live in the CR area? Sometimes I'm looking for people to see my nerd movies with.

Not MCU-related, more an FYI for you cinephiles:

I'm attending a 3-day virtual masterclass regarding AV transport technologies (I work in higher-ed AV and I design, configure and service a number of installations). I'll share some things that I thought would be worth noting to those looking for the best home theater experience.

Right off the bat, the discussion is about Dolby ATMOS and it's fit in the market place. A basic ATMOS layout is composed of the front soundstage - think of this as a traditional center channel, but this channel contains Left, Center & Right channels and then 5 zones: Left Side, Right Side, Rear, Left Top & Right Top. The Side and Top Zones can be divided again into regions where each region has 1 pair of speakers. Here is an image of a ATMOS speaker layout. This would be an 11.1.8 speaker layout.

Also of note, DTS:X is not the same as Dolby ATMOS, so if you are looking at getting a new audio receiver make sure you get one that either supports both formats or opt for the brand that supports ATMOS.

We've touched on 8K displays and how there really isn't a large need or use case for it, yet. The best application for 8K are for detailed images where as you focus on a portion of an image you are viewing it closer to 4K resolution (think medical or microscopic images).

Finally saw Eternals last night and I'm honestly still processing what I thought of it. Did I love it? No, but I'd say it did probably at least clear above my pretty low expectations. Just the type of movie it is will never be my favorite type of Marvel movie, but that doesn't mean there wasn't things and moments I enjoyed in it quite a lot.

Ms Marvel Disney+ series has been delayed until Fall 2022. This series was supposed to come out this year, so it's interesting that it's being delayed that far out,

I think part of this is due to The Marvels getting pushed to 2023. It is going to tie into that movie heavily and they probably didn't want them too far apart.

Honestly I love sound. when we moved to our new house, my only demand was that it have a home theater. We have wonderful sound but honestly I don't know who would have the space for all of those speakers.

So I am pretty dumb, but you watch these IMAX movies at home? Huh?
There are scenes in some MCU movies that were shot with an IMAX camera (the picture is bigger). Until now the versions streamed on Disney+ just cut the picture down in those scenes. They're making a change so you can view those scenes as intended. Basically the picture will get bigger on your TV sometimes. In the gif below the stuff above and below the blue lines would've just continued to be black bars on your TV

I thought it was worth pointing out - especially the "Top" channels. The next time you are in an ATMOS supported movie in the theater look for the top speakers (the top-front may be behind the screen). This may also dictate where the best seats are in the theater: you may need to sit further back (depending how those front-top speakers are pointed) for the best audio experience.

Something that you and other home-theater owners may want to keep an eye on is how the next gen AV receivers support Dolby ATMOS. It's going to be tough to move away from Dolby 5.1 in most instances (especially streaming) but in the coming years you may lose 1 or more audio channels in your current setup as more films adopt ATMOS as the preferred audio platform.

I'm gonna sound like a kinda stupid broken record, but that sounds pretty good for an Eternals story.

Today is Disney+ Day and they've already started steadily dropping their announcements on social media. So far, no Marvel or Star Wars, but I'm sure they are saving those for near the end.

What announcements were we expecting? Most of the big stuff for those franchises has already been announced.

My guess is there will be some pretty big good stuff. Keep in mind that this is Disney+ Day, so all announcements will be limited to future Disney+ content, not any theatrical stuff. My guess is some new future series will be announced, some new images, as well as some new trailers, like possibly an Obi-Wan trailer or something from Moon Knight. I really don't know. Based on some of the non-Marvel/Star Wars stuff they are dropping, it seems to be quite a bit of good stuff.

Run time was almost 2:40. It felt long, but it didn't quite reach the"Ok, time to wrap this up. I'm ready to go home." stage. It got close though.

Aha, probably explains why the local theatre didn't get it first week.

I find it weird to see the Marvel Studios logo on this. Up until now, anything Marvel Studios has made has had ties to the MCU. This clearly does not, at least that we know of.

WAT?????????? So many questions surrounding this one. Miles? Peter Parker college or Civil War prequel? If Peter Parker, in what universe and will it be voiced by Tom Holland? Peter in the What if....? series was one of the few voiced by a different actor.
