Special Teams Coach?

2019
Iowa - Return men run into each other, lose by 1

Baylor - Miss 2 FGs, lose by 2

KSU - KO Return TD to start game, almost every possession KSU starts in favorable territorywe can’t figure our **** out lose by 10

2020
OSU - Miss 2 FGs, lose by 3
OU - Missed FG, lose by 6

2021
Iowa - Punting **** show
Baylor - 20 yard punt, KO return TD

Don’t preach execution and doing the little things right and be this big of a ******* mess in the special teams game. Over half of our losses aren’t because we’re outplayed, it’s because our special teams are ******* incompetent

We got a guy from Texas am. I think his name is Rob Wright or something. He listed as quality control special teams.

Campbell has a huge blind spot here. He thinks we’ve just been unlucky?

So if he doesn't see what we all see and have seen for the past 3 years, he will never see it.

It's not inches when we try to willy Mays catch a punt. It's not inches when we can't contain or stay in our pursuit lanes on punt return s. It's not inches when the punter has a 50% chance of shanking it.

Also a missed FG today. That plays a big role, too.

As great as Campbell has been, this is baffling from an FBS Power 5 coach to not see this.

Special teams were clearly a factor in each of the last 3 losses to Iowa as well as recent losses to KSU, OU, OSU, Louisiana and Baylor. Special teams helped us against Oregon, but I wouldn't say they were the difference between winning and losing.

I had hoped that Mevis would make a difference, and he has with his kickoffs. But everything else is so bad that there is no way ISU can survive in enough close games to win 10 games this season.

And this doesn’t even include hemorrhaging field position and the impact that has on everything. Is it arrogance or ignorance that a program that wants to win the margins and ideally play ball control is this bad at ST?

And then there’s the offense…

One of my biggest concerns about not having a ST coach: I think it doubly dings us in punting and kicking.
1) We don't have a good coach to improve mistakes and bad kicks
2) We don't get good punting/kicking recruits. If I'm a good kicker or punter, I'm not going to commit to a school that doesn't have a special teams coach... so I think we don't get better than Dunn like talent. (See Cole Becker's flip from ISU to CO).

A little salt in that wound.., Cole is a freshman at Colorado, and is placekicking for them. He's 7-9 on touchbacks for the year... and one of his non touchbacks was his first kick of the year. The other, they stopped them at the 16. (He's 0-2 on fg attempts, both longer than 40 yards).
