Report: OU & Texas reach out to join SEC

Texas sucks, Oklahoma in football is a huge loss though. Both of them have pathetic followings basketball.

Pac-12 and Big 10 are pipe dreams. The only hope is 4 SEC teams veto it. After that you get Houston and BYU on the phone, let Cambpell dominate that conference in football and enjoy the best basketball conference in the country.
Matt Campbell will be gone before Texas and OU.
It would mean that we'd have 3-4 years to get the debt paid down to a manageable level. And if the switch to streaming continues at it's current pace, it will make schools like us that don't have a lot of tv sets but a large fanbase more marketable than we were at the time of the last renewal.
If OU and TX pull the plug it'll be done shortly and a negotiated settlement. It isn't going to drag out.

If those schools pull the plug, ISU as we know it is irreparably harmed. The budget overnight will be cut by 50%+. Minimum.

In 15 years, at the end of the ACC Grant of Rights, it will be essentially 2 mega conferences. Right now, there are 2 large and 3 mid level conferences. The largest brands of the ACC, after falling behind by $20-30 million per year, will go to the Big 10 or SEC. North Carolina and Virginia to the Big 10, Clemson and Miami/Florida State to the SEC. The Pac 12 will still function due to their location.

Feel for the folks running CF as well. While a forum may still be operable, this would be a massive blow to it as a business.

And I won’t be watching 1 minute of it.

I'd think Georgia Tech would be pretty attractive to someone also. AAU school, Atlanta and Georgia's growing population, and pretty good athletics historically.

So what happens if UT/OU is a no go. Would they come after ISU?
If UT/OU are a go, what about Campbells future with ISU?

Out there a bit.

Everything related to ISU would take a monster hit. Ames would feel a TON of economic pain. Some things would be gradual (I would anticipate a fall in enrollment over time as you don't get the sports marketing) but other things like the hospitality industry would take a huge hit. The University itself would have some hefty bond payments to make as well considering all the money athletics has put into facilities.

Money ruining things is nothing new, but damn, in the last decade it has seemed to accelerate faster and faster. Greed has always been a thing, but it's gotten so out of control in all facets of life it's really sad. A made up thing (money) has such control over our lives to the point that we as people will do anything for it, and I mean anything. You have people that would love to have $20 in this country and then you have these jokers not satisfied with $50 Million when they can have $60 Million (just an example, I know those aren't the real numbers). Fun fact, nobody, and I mean nobody NEEDS that much money. But the arms race fuse was lit a long time ago and this powder keg was going to blow up no matter what transpired from that point on.

The other thing that sucks is it just shows how horrible we are as humans to each other. Moves like this over money devastates thousands (or more sometimes) of others. The ISU AD, KSU AD, etc. will have to lay people off and institutions that have been around forever will be crushed. They will still exist, but will be a shell of what they once were. All because we are the most selfish creatures around.

campbell’s future (and pollards) are the immediate concerns.

I just don’t think you can keep campbell paid right andkeep him competitively happy in the pac 12. And that’s our best case scenario.

we could probably afford mark farley.

im not sure people get it…there is no Iowa state football after this, not like we know it, we would be like a mountain west or aac team, with a similar budget

if everyone at isu was suprised by this, that is not good
