Report: OU & Texas reach out to join SEC

No, I grew up in Ag and currently have an ag business on the side. I’m just describing KSU as a 4 year JUCO
So why ad the Ag? Many Hawkeye fans make fun of Ag schools but then beat their chests about ANF stickers. Pretty two faced and seemed to be a slap when you included that.

You can't charge Big 12 prices for AAC quality.

Well, you could, but you'd have an empty stadium.

I don't think people actually fathom how devastating this would be to ISU. Not just athletics but the institution. Iowa State has spent money in the arms race it is counting on getting in the future. OU and TX control that flow of money. If they jump ship I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if 80% of the TV contract value went away. Instead of $35M distributed by the conference it may be $10M. That would make COVID seem like child's play.

this is right, it would end Iowa state athletics as we know it. Ad budget gets cut in half at least, probably more. It would hurt enrollment, would devastate the Ames economy…it’s a disaster.

Wouldn't we be the only team in the conference without a baseball team too? Pitt would be a better pick for the Big 10 than ISU would.
You are reaching now, baseball, no one cares about baseball, and we bring wrestling to the conference with a proud history in the sport, which the conference does care about.
With the new money coming in, ISU could always start a new baseball program if that is one of the requirements to getting into the Big 10.

Look like I have said before, the Big 10 is not going to rush out and offer an invite to ISU, KU they will but not ISU. They will as you think try to pry one of the schools from the ACC. After they say "no", then they will look around and come to the conclusion that the only school left that fits their academic and atheletic criteria even close to the footprint is ISU.

ISU doesn’t need baseball. They add value with men’s/women’s basketball, volleyball and football.

The Big 12 surviving with no OU or TX is like being completely paralyzed after a car accident but I mean.... at least you're alive.
Texas sucks, Oklahoma in football is a huge loss though. Both of them have pathetic followings basketball.

Pac-12 and Big 10 are pipe dreams. The only hope is 4 SEC teams veto it. After that you get Houston and BYU on the phone, let Cambpell dominate that conference in football and enjoy the best basketball conference in the country.

Let's say they both leave and each pay the conference $100M. That's $25M per remaining school. That's at best going to cover you for one year of TV revenue lost. Then what?

It would mean that we'd have 3-4 years to get the debt paid down to a manageable level. And if the switch to streaming continues at it's current pace, it will make schools like us that don't have a lot of tv sets but a large fanbase more marketable than we were at the time of the last renewal.

The good news is that at least we're not Baylor or TCU. TCU is probably screwed. Baylor definitely is.

The only hope of torpedoing this resides in the Texas Legislature. And at this point in time, they can't even get a quorum.

When Boren was at OU, he made it a point to stick together with OSU. There is no longer any such alliance.

I'd have to believe some or all of the other 8 schools have contingency plans in place for such an event. I have no interest in joining the PAC12 and I doubt they want us. It's terrible from a logistics standpoint and we don't bring enough eyeballs. That leaves us two options. We either pray we can get plucked by the B1G, or we take our core schools and see if we can find a few to join. IDK where Colorado stands, but we know kNU is not happy with the B1G. Both left in large part because of Texas. Maybe we can get to 10-12 schools.

I'd almost rather see us rebuild the Big 12 because it means things like maintaining regional rivalries and a week long trip to KC in March. But I don't see a scenario were we can maintain the current TV revenue. Our best hope would be that the big fat raise that was likely to come with the upcoming TV deal could be close enough to what we currently have to maintain what we have.
Colorado was looking to join the PAC for two decades and finally got their wish and are happy there. Nebraska isn’t giving up Big Ten money.

Campbell won’t be in Ames if we become the Big AAC. We won’t come close to affording his salary.

A&M and Mizzou will vote no so only need 2 more votes. I could see LSU and Razorbacks vote no as they dont want to compete even more with TX for recruits.

I wonder what JP is thinking through all of this. CW said earlier that his ISU sources were caught off guard by the news today, that doesn’t mean JP likely hasn’t game planned this out in some manner, at some point.
