Report: OU & Texas reach out to join SEC

If the Big 10 adds a team its going to be a school like UVA or UNC.
I get that they took Maryland, but what is in it for N. Carolina and Virginia. Leave a conference that they helped form, both are BB schools first and it takes them away from Duke.

Neither school needs the money like Maryland and Rutgers, so why move when they do not have too. UCONN is going downward in FB and left the AAC conference to play in a BB conference, so they are off the board.

The big 10 approaches both, makes their case, and both say "thanks, but we are happy running the ACC." They will not want to take ISU, there will be no one left to take but us that is an AAU school and is decent in sports.

So its ISU and KU to the Big 10

I bet Missouri is wishing they could leave SEC now. They'd be thrilled if Big Ten said hey Missouri, come with us with Iowa State. KU and KSU and OSU and TCU and TT could go west.

North carolina especially. The state of NC has 4 ACC teams. A lot of tradition there. They care more about the basketball rivalries there than football. I don't see them wanting to break that up.

The academic prestige of the Big 10. It's an elite club anyone would want to join. They can still schedule games against Duke and NC State.

Playing the scenario game here...(this is 100% based on nothing, just having some fun)

Let's just say everything blows up.

ConferenceSchools that get picked upReason
SECOU, TexActively doing so
B1GIowa St, KUAAU certs, regional ties. New market in KC. Monopoly on IA market
ACCWVUI'id actually pick them to be B1G over us if they had the academics. Unfortunately they are stupid.

There might be some academic requirements here I'm not aware of, but they let Louisville in who has a very poor academic ranking, so....
PAC-12OKSU, TTUthey'd end up having to go to the P12 otherwise they'd be left out. Too big of schools in new, seperate markets to be left out.
Stay in Big12, Big 12 becomes a "mid-tier" conferenceKSU, TCU, Baylor (haha)Just don't see where else they'd fit in. Not enough slots anywhere else.
Added to Big12Cincy, Houston, Memphis, SMU literally just naming schools here. Cincy has been talked about before. Houston, Memphis, SMU, all good markets.

I became a SuperFanatic 2 days ago because I wanted the best inside information about ISU sports and I was pumped about our football season. Now, I'm afraid to even open up this forum. I feel like the guy who decided to invest in the stock market at the high and now I'm watching it tank.

Chris please....say something!

ISU, land grant and research wise has always made sense in the B1G. That isn't me saying Iowa State athletics have been better than Iowa's over the years because they haven't, but just school wise ISU has the B1G "feel."
I would have no problem with ISU in the B1G. I have always preferred conferences make sense geographically/culturally, money be damned.

Plus, then both Iowa and ISU fans can stop claiming the other one wants to cancel the series since we'd be playing each other every year in conference. ;)

Tell the pac 12 they need an early game. We can give them 11 am for our home games. Fills half of what they need.
If it came down to it I wouldn’t mind the Pac 12. Campbell pitches ISU as the midwest option in the Big 12, now we can be that option in the Pac 12. Honestly, I think Campbell could dominate that conference forever. Rhoads talked about hitting people coming off the bus, Campbell does it. And those road trips would be awesome. All of them. Expensive, hard to get to, but awesome. At Stanford on Saturday, Carmel and Santa Barbara in between, then at the Rose Bowl vs UCLA on Saturday. I would pray for back-to-back roadies.

I still don't think the Big 10 takes us, but ISU needs to be proactive and go to them with hat in hand. This conference is done, even if Texass and OU to SEC doesn't happen. It is clear they are not in it for the long haul. They have it as good as its going to get for them in this conference and it still isn't good enough. We need to watch out for ISU and hope the B1G is feeling charitable. We have something really special going in football and the only chance to save it is the Big 10 route IMO.

The ACC is right there with the Big Ten and Pac-12 as far as academic prestige.
The ACC no doubt has some great schools. The thing the Big 10 has over all other conferences though is that is has such a huge national footprint now. You are advertising everywhere just being in the conference. The ACC is still a pretty regional conference.

We have some good connections in Big 10 country; Gene Smith and Barry Alvarez.

Top 10 football program. Top 25 basketball program. Top tier facilities. Huge fanbase. Elite academics.

I absolutely love the Cyclones, but we’ve been top 10 twice in our history, basketball won 2 games last year, our facilities are now just comparable to others (not elite), we don’t have a huge fanbase at all (although it’s an intensely loyal one), and our academics are plunging over the past 5 years (yes we are still AAU).

Of the 8 leftover schools we’d definitely rank behind KU and would be roughly comparable to Ok State, WV IMO. We could be a bit above K-State and TT, maybe. For sure we have more to market than either of the small private schools though.

So, I wonder if JP is calling the UT and OU ADs and asking why this wasn’t mentioned last week to them?
