Report: OU & Texas reach out to join SEC

Hate to say it, but would really like to see us explore the B1G while we can, regardless of whether or not OU/Texas are voted in. I just don't see any guarantees that put us in the new Power 4 and i don't want to risk being left out.

Much easier to travel to away games and opens up an OOC slot, more revenue sharing, higher viewership ratings.

I understand we don't like the B1G because it's boring, but there is way too much at stake here to not at least be looking at a move.

I've actually thought ISU makes so much sense in the Big Ten for a couple of decades now. Especially since Missouri, Nebraska, and Colorado left. So many Big Ten teams less than 6 hours drive (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern, Iowa). How many currently...two with the Kansas schools?

right now I would put ISU,OSU, and TCU as the most attractive football teams out of the remaining group. Maybe WV also but they are on an island compared to the rest of us.

If this does end up happening it could be the best thing ever to happen to ISU. With OU and UT off the board, and either to the SEC or ND as an independent. That would force the Big 10 to expand also, they have said in the past they will only take AAU schools, so KU is in. So where do they get that 16th school? Can't see them taking a Baylor or TCU. TT, WV, KSU do not have the academics to get in.

When its said and done and over the objection of the EIU fan base, ISU gets that last invite.

Show me where this is wrong.

I think ISU would jump at the chance to join the B1G but I'm just not sure how interested the B1G would be in offering us an invitation. Hopefully they would be but I have my doubts about that.

Because most believe they will may a play for Virginia and someone else out there. They are focused on the east. They could ship Indy west and let that be the also rams.

If the Big 10 adds a team its going to be a school like UVA or UNC.

The only thing is that KU and KSU could tie together while UI is in no way in a situation where they are tied to us. I think we need to tie ourselves to KU if we can, if that fails tie to Okie St. and try to get to the PAC 12.

Not good, Bob. The recruiting impacts in football and basketball will hurt and did happen in the past. Worst part, we (ISU) have no say, UT and OU can play this out to the detriment of its other conference “partners”. I hope we house them both this year in every sport.

So they are gonna announce a breakup and then still be in the conference for 2 more years? Awkward.

Everything is negotiable.

Possible there's a negotiated buyout because even the remaining teams would probably want to move on to whatever is next.

Yup. I've said when the Big Ten expands again, and they will, it will be ISU and KU. The only snag is I think KU and KSU may be tied at the hip but can't be sure.

ISU, land grant and research wise has always made sense in the B1G. That isn't me saying Iowa State athletics have been better than Iowa's over the years because they haven't, but just school wise ISU has the B1G "feel."

I thought that wasn't the case last time around. KU may try to bring KSU, but ultimately if its between both going to the MWC and KU staying in a P5 conference, KU will go it alone.

If Texas and OU want in your conference, you would have to be pretty dumb not to vote yes if you are an SEC team.
Wonder how Arkansas feels. OU and Texas are close which might help their recruiting and be fun for fans, but also seems like it would make the Razorbacks even more irrelevant. Also curious about LSU. I’m not sure being in a revised SEC West with OU and Texas is good for them, even if you push Bama and Auburn to the East. Also, my daughter goes to South Carolina, and if Bama and Auburn join the East they’re pretty much screwed. How can they get over Georgia, Florida, Bama and Auburn?

Potentially the Big Ten tries to pull in Virginia and North Carolina, but I’m not sure they could make it happen. North Carolina especially has deep ties to the ACC, particularly to the ACC basketball tournament and Tobacco Road.

If realignment and the playoff force Notre Dame to pick a conference, it looks like the ACC would be the choice, which would be another reason for ACC teams to think twice about leaving. West Virginia would probably be the most attractive option for the ACC’s 16th team.

Then if you’re the Big Ten and you can’t get Notre Dame, Virginia, or North Carolina, who do you look at? Kansas and Iowa State seem like the most logical options, maybe UConn if they develop their football.
