Report: OU & Texas reach out to join SEC

After reading that they need 11 of 14 schools to vote yes, I think it's highly unlikely. They would only need 2 more no votes. Can't believe that between the other 12 teams, they couldn't find two more no votes....especially with AR, TN, The Mississippi's, or Vandy.

If I'm LSU, or Arkansas, I want no part in losing even more recruits to bigger brands right next door.

Academic instituations tend to think like...academic institutions. Decisions are made by academic leaders, not sports leaders.
What would be the advantage of leaving the SEC even academically unless they were going to the Ivy League? Being in the SEC is a massive billboard.

If Sankey (commissioner) & the other "big dogs" in that conference want OU & Texas to join I have a feeling 11 approval votes somehow, someway will be "found". Those are 2 of the biggest brands in college athletics we are taking about.

So are we thinking the remaining 8 schools are done working together if the two big egos move on? Or is there an effort to bridge a WV gap and get back to 10 or 12 schools? None of us are great fits for the PAC, there’s only 2 (maybe) that fit B1G, and ACC would really only work for WV. Obviously that new league would be diminished but we all kind of work together as the “forgotten schools.”

If I was Baylor or TCU right now I’d be very very worried.

Oh yeah. It’ll be every man for himself then.

Not sure on that. The SEC doesn't really compare to how the Big 10 shares grant money via their academic alliance. That would be a consideration if there were academic funds involved.

2 new things here:

If Okie State has a statement, that's not great.
The SEC just got their new deal. Like, just got it. I have no idea what happens now with that? Financially OU and TX would be worth more than if you take their new deal, divide by 14, then tack on that x 2.

Okay yeah hypothetically the Big 10 and even the Pac-12 would be a step-up in that regard. I thought we were talking about them dropping divisions or becoming unaffiliated vs being in the SEC.

Doesn’t the big 12 have a grant of rights? Meaning if a school leaves, all the money they receive from media contracts is still owed to the conference for the duration of the current media contract? I think that contract runs 2 more years?

Hate to say it, but would really like to see us explore the B1G while we can, regardless of whether or not OU/Texas are voted in. I just don't see any guarantees that put us in the new Power 4 and i don't want to risk being left out.

Much easier to travel to away games and opens up an OOC slot, more revenue sharing, higher viewership ratings.

I understand we don't like the B1G because it's boring, but there is way too much at stake here to not at least be looking at a move.

I have gone through 2 Cuban Missile crises with this conference. Looks like a 3rd. It sucks but gets easier to digest. Plus, tired of having UT and OU ***** about the conference when they have all the power. It may work out well for us.

This news, if true, shouldn't shock anyone. I'm just glad ISU is in a much much better position than when all this realignment talk started. I still think Iowa State makes so much sense in the Big Ten if Big 12 folds. Sue me.

We’d take that in a heartbeat but what do we bring to that league where they’d want to take us in? I just don’t see it. I’d be ecstatic though.

Tell the pac 12 they need an early game. We can give them 11 am for our home games. Fills half of what they need.

Being in tOSU country has kind of changed my perspective on the whole boring Big Ten thing. Basketball would be awesome imo.

Yes, Texas and OU will leave after that is over.
