Just scanned through the posts on here. Virtually all references are to Casey's, including the title. Folks ask why they would change the logo to Casey's only. Hmmmmmmmmmmm, I wonder!

My wife sent me out for a lemon a while ago. I played a hunch and stopped at a Kwik Star two minutes from my house and they had lemons, avocados, limes, onions and whole bunch of other stuff. I spent the time that it would have taken to go to the grocery store in my garage crushing a 24 oz Busch Light that I also got at Kwik Star and I don't really even drink Busch Light.

Sorry, for whatever reason, the "I don't really even drink Busch Light" part of your story made me think of this.

Wish there were more Top Tier options in central Iowa.

What's sad is my parents in rural IA only have top tier options - Cenex and Sinclair.
Ankeny, you have to hunt as there is only 1 BP, 1 QT, and 2 - Kwik Star. The Kwik Star is new the last 2 years of course, before then it was sparse.

Ames has a good selection of top tier but ames cost is pretty high compared to the DSM metro. They at least have a number of conoco, philips66 and a cenex.

Yea, I'm in the older part of Urbandale. We used to have the QT at Hickman/73rd but now I think the closest is on Merle Hay by 80/35.

Is the Thompson Oil Cartel still a thing in Ames?

I remember at an old job I had, we were releasing a new product. They spent a ton of money hiring a marketing agency to come up with the name. The CEO made it clear that he wanted the name to be "Edgy" and stressed that multiple times. Several weeks and thousands of dollars later, the agency came back with their results. Their recommendation? "Call the product 'Edge'".

The CEO loved it. Well worth the money in his opinion.

I once worked a University here in Iowa. They hired a firm to redo their logo. The firm shared all the schools they worked with, had meetings on campus to take input, etc. Funny thing happened when the new logo options were revealed they were the same designs from those other schools. Cut and paste baby! And the school went with one of the cut and paste options. It was pathetic.

As illustrated by another poster, their logo now looks like everyone else's. It makes sense. It's time to dump the general store theme. But they didn't completely as the stand alone signs still have a barn/chicken shed outline....or is it a garage with a weather vane? LOL Anyway, the first thing that came to my mind is that all signage packaging would be cheaper to produce because it's only two colors instead of four.

An interesting side note is that this rebranding comes at a time where they are expanding their offerings of self-branded items such as soda, chips, etc. When they opened the store at 1st and Delaware in Ankeny, for the first few weeks they only offered their in house fountain drinks as a test. They still have a few.

Iowa is the most competitive convenience store market in the nation. You know it's a tough market when QT is closing and selling stores. And Kwik Trip/Kwik Star is definitely disrupting things in central Iowa. The one across from the Casey's in Grimes appears to do 2X the business...at least at the times when I roll through. Their kitchens are about 2X the size of a Casey's. And yes, their chicken is great.

There was an article in the Wisconsin State Journal a few years ago about Kwik Trip/Kwik Star. They are crushing their competition because of their centralized business model. My MIL lives near their headquarters and talks about it a lot. Everything is centralized and made in house then shipped to individual stores. A Casey's rep was quoted about how they have trouble competing with them. I really like Kwik Star and their milk and eggs are way cheaper than HyVee.

Wait...here is the article https://madison.com/wsj/business/a-...cle_2f069abd-8d5e-59e3-874a-901d2e15f863.html.

It could be worse.... they could have picked the person that designed the Hoks' Tigerhawk logo.

That's straight out of the Simpsons' Poochie episode.
