Head Coach

Just because he took an interview doesn't mean he's gonna leave. Interview happen all the time.

Yep, but usually under different circumstances. If he wants to interview for other jobs then I don't see why we can't talk about other coaches. Two way street.

But taking said interview does not exactly display his desire to be in Ames and finish what he started - as you said.

I expected Gene to leave someday. But not after a pair of bad seasons. And certainly not just a week after he demoted both coordinators (and fired 2 other assistants).

He's not gone yet, but he's got one foot out the door.

True. I just find it funny everyone is jumping to the conclusion that interview/offer means he's gone. If he's the man he says he is and we've been led to believe, then I don't see him taking the offer unless monetary it's to big to pass up.

I think almost every coach in the country would take the interview, if you didn't you are stupid. I'm not gonna knock him for that.

That would be great, but the fact that he would interview means he is interested in the job at least on some level.

And supposedly he has an offer...almost any coach in the country would be silly not to accept it.

If Gene truly was happy here and he truly wanted to finish this - he would not have take the interview.

I am not upset at him taking it - I'm upset he's done nothing here in the win column and just reorganized the staff - then seems poised to leave.

Can ISU fans 'embrace' Chizik after this and the rumor during the season about not wanting to be at ISU? I cannot take it, lets start our search again...

My wish list (in no order):

Gill
Loney
Ditka
Someone who will win...

That should be the number one choice.

i would be interested to if i were him. Lets get real he is at isu, a college with maybe the least football tradition of any team in the big 12. he would be an idiot to not be interested. I just hope that auburn has doesn't hire him. they made a coach resign who was a proven winner, to what hire a guy with 5 wins in 2 years in the big 12? explain that one to me auburn

I think this part of your post, in bold, is open for conjecture, 22. I am still not convinced that Chiz did this alone. I could be wrong, though. I've been wrong before.

Did it alone or not - it's ultimately his call. We can split hairs if we want to - but the facts are the facts.

You forgot Gill. He won the MAC. Those teams always beat us.

I look at it this way, Auburn is starting from scratch. Chizic was a hot item not that long ago and he has ties to the program. It does not surprise me that we want to at least interview him. That being said, they are going to look at his record and see 5 wins to 19 losses and probably go another direction. The sad thing for Chiz is that he is going to have to answer to fans and more importantly recruits.

I don't mean to split hairs. Sorry. On Dec. 5th I started a thread that asked the question, what part will Pollard play in the OC DC decision, and I got killed for it. It would be meddling, I think, is the way most people reacted.
This is only speculation on my part. All I am saying is perhaps......... this was not entirely Chizik's doing, maaaaaaaaaaaybe not any of his doing. That is all I was/am trying to say. Why is it ultimately his call? He has a boss. So I don't understand what "facts are facts" you are alluding to.

I'd love to get a former Clone. Somebody who loves the state and the program. Getting some southern guy is just asking for trouble because they'll ultimately puss out and go back south when they get the chance. Hire some assistants who can recruit where we need to recruit from. When assistants move on, it's not front-page news.

Who cares if Chizik leaves? Even though it hasn't been confirmed yet, I'm kind of hoping that he leaves. He is getting garbage recruits. Everyone here will probably use the excuse "it's hard to recruit well when your team is this bad." But that's wrong. Indiana is just as lousy as us right now in football, and they have a class 50 times better than ours coming in next year. Hell, even Duke is outrecruiting us and they haven't finished in higher than dead last in the ACC probably since I've been alive. Chizik doesn't know how to coach and I'd like to see him turn into Auburn's problem because I'd rather not have him be our problem anymore.

It is not necessary to describe the young men who have verbally committed to our football program as being garbage.
I would have thought that if you were not impressed with the quality of the recruited players, that would have said enough.
