The tournament hasn't even started, and the "few tweets" you are laughing at are already having an affect, the media is picking it up.
It will build and build in the media, that will then spur on legislature, which in turn will force the NCAA to change even though they don't want to. The NCAA would be wise to get out in front of this to have some say in what happens, or they will be just forced to deal with the laws that are passed.
Unless the players refuse to play nothing will happen

You think the NCAA wants this tournament to become about them, and how the way they are treating student athletes?
It is all part of a cohesive plan. Ultimately it won't matter if the NCAA does nothing, legislatures are taking care of this as we speak. Making it an issue that is up front in the media only speeds the legislature process on faster. You really need to get a clue as to how these things work.

As I said, the players know this, and that is why they are getting legislatures on their side. This is going to be out of the hands of the NCAA soon. The legislatures are going to give student athletes their NIL whether the NCAA wants to or not. This is about PR and moving this along as fast as they possibly can.
The NCAA isn't stupid, and the risk they run is letting state legislatures dictate this is very large. In essence the NCAA will need to first seek antitrust exemptions (not gonna happen) to get around some potential lawsuits that start popping up when state legislatures NIL laws get enacted. Then they would need to get federal laws passed that would preempt the state laws that will be going into effect.
It is a complicate legal slippery slope. That is why after California adopted the Fair pay to play act, the NCAA board of governors said it supports modification to its rules on NIL.
You are correct though, the NCAA does not want to change. The only way they will change is if student athletes stand up, and force the change upon them, which is what they are trying to do.
Yes I know about Jordan's Hilton shoes, but being 100% real here, can the players write messages on their shoes, headbands, etc to get some camera action and announcer mentions?
