The Fran fade

Somehow I ended up watching quite a bit of the second half of OSU-MSU game.

As physical a game as I've seen in awhile. (only hope of MSU winning)

Did MSU play different players against Iowa?

Why'd they roll over when they played them?
I have been wondering this as well. MSU had to have players out or were taking the night off...something. Either that or the beatdown Iowa gave them woke them the hell up.

It's not that i disagree but the readon luka often throws the elbow you speak of is because guys are pushing him with their body and or hands and Lukas fighting for that same space. Luka has probably elbowed 30 guys in the face in career maybe more. Almost all get looked at by review. I'm not sure 1 has been deemed flagrant. Reason is that when you look at his elbows guys are getting right up on him again often bodying him or shoving him and Lukas just making a move towards the hoop.
Yeah I've seen Luka elbow guys in the face and it's usually done in a legal way so there's no flagrant call. Specifically last night, there were at least 3 times where Luka threw a hard elbow into the defender's side while getting around the guy. That is illegal.

I'm not saying he deserves to be thrown out of the game or anything. I'm just saying that throwing an elbow is an offensive foul every single time you do it. Bodying someone up in the post is discretionary.

Michigan State has found something. Whether that's a lineup, a different gear, etc. Whatever it was it's for sure working and could end up giving them a shot to play in the tourney.

I woule agree shaq is the poster child of taking hits it was just a comparison. I think if Luka was on Iowa state you would be upset he doesn't shoot 12 free throws a game. Its all about perception you see the elbows i see the mauling on the other end.
Do you even watch Iowa play basketball? Garza initiates all contact to move people and when he plays against someone bigger and stronger like Dickinson he's worthless

So Garza, Patrick and Connor are all going to get 30+ mpg down the stretch? Buckle up this is going to be fun
Nunge being out makes their margin of error so much slimmer. Garza will be gassed, guys like Jorbo, Weiskamp, and Frederick are going to have to shoot 75%+ from 3 for them to hang with anybody halfway decent. If Garza gets winded or early foul trouble, Connor and Patrick will be out there ensuring Iowa has no shot at the W.

Garza gets hacked at times but he also gets a lot of calls because he's so unorthodox and acts like he's getting mauled when he's really not.

If referees would call an offensive foul every single time Garza put his head through a guys chest, hooked around, or posted up too hard, Garza wouldn't be able to play basketball. Conversely, if guys weren't able to be just as physical as Luka is when guarding him, he'd be the most dominant player in the history of basketball. (a bit of hyperbole)

It all evens itself out in the end considering where Luka is ranked in the nation for FT attempts.

Do you watch Iowa basketball? Usually you say you don't but then almost always seem to be the self appointed expert. I disagree i think the other player is initiating the contact a lot. Not everytime but good portion

When there are guys who are just as big as Luka (there are not many) I think Luka initiates the contact. Take last night for instance. Luka got worked down low because he wasn't able to go through the defenders like he's usually able to. They stayed down, didn't fall for fakes, and half the time Luka had to fade away on his jump hooks which ended in a lot of misses.

When guys are smaller, Luka can just bully them. It's virtually impossible to stop him without fouling him because he truly is that good.

Last night specifically though. Nah. Luka just got worked. It happens, even to the best players.

Hes not throwing the elbow every sinle time though. Guys are in his cylinder and hes continuing to play. There was 1 yesterday though were yes he put his elbow into guys body and used it illegally to spin. A lot of times the cylinder rule could be used though

I never said he used it every single time lol I literally said 3 times and yes it was 3 times. And the cylinder rule almost completely goes out the window down low. It'd be impossible to consistently call the cylinder rule down low. It's so damn hard to determine whether or not it's the offensive player or defensive player who is allowed to occupy the space.

I've been saying this all year...Garza does a half hook every single time he goes baseline...Every single time. I think he's maybe been called for it once the entire year..

They get a ref who looks for that in tourney and half his offensive moves are done..
That's all Garza has ever done his whole career, that and shuffling his feet. Makes sense why he's not an NBA player.
