Damn, you peeps weather talk just gave me another flashback. Winter 1969/1970. Minor frostbitten fingers walking back from campus to Wallace Hall. Had a big art portfolio under my arms and cradled by my fingers, think it contributed by maybe cutting off circulation. Couple of those finger tips are still more sensitive to extreme cold.

Cancelled class? Never heard of it. When I was in high school, there was a day where the wind chill was -40 and we were the only school district in the state that didn't close.
I once went to high school on a day so cold that my car exterior door handle exploded when i tried to open the door.

-26 here in Dirty Dodge this morning. This is the coldest actual temperature I can recall.

On a somewhat warmer note, headed to Wisky this weekend for a wedding. Looking forward to some (relative) warmth for that. Maybe I can even get some of the salt and sludge washed off my truck.

We had a superintendent who was notorious for not cancelling school for weather. Schools all around us would cancel and we would still be going. And this was one of the larger (in square miles) school districts at the time so there were a lot of bus miles logged. What was even worse was many times he wouldn't cancel until after the bus drivers were well into their routes so they were picking up kids and then turning around and dropping them back off at home. We used to joke that Dr. Green was sleeping in again today.

One time we were waiting for the bus. We were at the end of the bus route so we only had a few minute bus ride in the morning but a very long ride in the evening. We had a pretty long driveway so we couldn't just wait inside for the bus, we had to be out at the end of the drive when the bus came. We waited and waited on this snowy, slick day. Finally a bus showed up going the wrong way and stopped to pick us up. It wasn't our driver and he explained that our bus had gone in the ditch and he was going out to pick up all the students on the bus. We got out to where the bus had gone in the ditch and promptly slid into the ditch in the same spot. After that our super finally cancelled school for the day.

Well, we will see how this goes...

Daughter has her driving test this morning so she can get her license. The testing place is out in the middle of nowhere out in an industrial park. There is a warning on the website that the person who brings the test driver will not be allowed inside so they should dress appropriately for the weather. It was -17 at 0700 this morning and we are under a windchill advisory until 0900.

I'm sure since her test isn't until 0920 everything will be fine...

:D

I have on long johns and flannel lined jeans. I am debating whether to pull on the heavy BDU pants I have over the top. Definitely going with the lobster gloves.

When I first moved to Minnesota I needed to go to a post office from my work downtown. Not being well versed in skyways, I went to what I thought was the closest PO rather than the one on the skyway. I didn't have a hat on and what didn't seem that cold was damned cold when the wind whipped down between the buildings. I frost bit my ears but probably not as badly as you did your fingers. My ears were only extra sensitive for about 10 years.

Turned out, it probably was farther away than the skyway PO office anyway.
