Seven years ago today:

I remember when everyone was worried he had bad hands as a freshman. Great player, just those hands.

Man what a player...dude played hard, all the time, will always be one of my favorite cyclones, I just really enjoyed his 4 years here, so fun to watch...complete player

One of my all time favorite players. Best moment when he flipped off the BYU crowed after they were yelling racist ****.

Also, player development was so good under Hoiberg. I remember when Melvin was a freshman and could barely dribble and shot like 20% from 3. Seeing him develop into conference player POY was awesome.
Yep, the freshman everyone was psyched about that year wasn’t Melvin but Calvin Godfrey... that really flipped quickly.

Does anyone remember Ejim's high school highlights video? It was nothing but bad ass dunks. Sick dunks. Posterizations. Alley oops. Dude had some serious hops.

If Godfrey had stayed out of trouble, both legal and team rules wise, that narrative could well have stuck, he was really coming on strong at the end of that season, playing better than Ejim at that point. Given how crazy raw he was he had a huge ceiling.

had floor seats.... sicker brag

You got me, barely. I was in the 3rd row...for my daughter's 5th grade basketball tournaent.....all freaking day. Terrible shooting, poor fundamentals, incessant turnovers and some kids not sure if they were playing offense or defense....actually it reminds me a little of this year's ISU team.

The real kicker was that I got home and our power had gone out early in the game so my DVR barely got any of it recorded. I was less than impressed. Just a really ****** Saturday for me. Pretty decent day for Melvin though. Man I miss that guy and those days. As someone else said, being good was fun.

Pretty sure I watched that one in an emptyish bar that afternoon.

Beers and bar food and an afternoon of watching mid-late season basketball.

Good times.
