How Bad is ReCe DaViS?

ESPN has you all right where they want you. It’s a TV show, there’s a “script”, there are “roles” that are being played.

Agree. Rece is supposed to be the 'all knowing' and he's looking a little stupid now because of his BYU rants. 'Analytical' Herbie went off script with his anti-MI rant and got scolded. Same with Galloway and his anti-NW comments. Pollack likes 'chaos' and he might get it when we beat OU. And then there's the Bear who gets mocked for his clothes and prediction in September-- Iowa State is a playoff sleeper.

The bear is the one who actually digs into things, the rest are more of the dumb jock type in HS. Kind of a revenge of the nerds type. The jocks shoot their mouth off, catch backlash and then finally wake up for a minute and notice something.

All the criticism will be justified if we don't beat OU this Saturday. Just win that game and prove we belong in the conversation because if we lose that game then we'll fall down in the rankings and no longer even be in the conversation. I love that we are in a position where if everything were to play out just right we could potentially find a path into the top 4 but if you threw this scenario out there after we lost the 1st game of the season I think nearly everyone here would have laughed at the notion that we would be ranked 6th in the CFP at this point so let's enjoy the ride so far and see where we stand after Saturday. Beating OU is priority #1 right now!

I personally don't give a **** about what Davis or any other media personality thinks about Iowa State. The fact that we are in the conversation is enough for me. I had to eat crow over comments I made after the UL loss, and I did it gladly. We are in uncharted waters, and it's pretty damn exciting.

Sour grapes aren't a good look for high profile sports broadcasters, anyway.

Nothing Reece said wasn't true. Don't get beat by a G5 at home and these conversations are not happening.

I think it's the hypocrisy behind it all. These d bags don't do their research. It's the same old regurgitated BS. ISU loses at home to a nationally ranked team 1st game of season while missing some key players in an odd year. Florida loses at home to a terrible LSU team (because of SEC brand) an eye isn't even batted and they move down only 1 spot. Had that same thing happened to ISU, they would have moved down 5-8 spots guaranteed.

Bear sounded like the only intelligent one in the room when he spouted off facts. Others were just spouting off base opinions.

This is what’s wrong with people like him these days - our story should be celebrated. Iowa State’s success should be celebrated and recognized : that is the beauty of College Football. A feel good story of a program that is able to improve in the last few years, a program that has full of disciplined student-athletes who followed the protocol resulting in no cancellations from our side.
I would recognize ULL too if they are in our position. Instead these people whined about us losing to ULL and Okie State. I don’t think Cincy will have unbeaten records too if they play in Big 12.
This. One million percent this. I totally expected, based on our history, to be the feel-good underdog story. A true outsider with a chance to compete with the blue bloods. Instead, I think ESPN has used us as the lightning rod for all the CFP negativity and as a way to distract from the undeserving teams they are trying to push.

It's hilarious how the G5 schools think the CFP comittee are protecting us as one of their own, when in reality I don't think we've ever viewed ourselves as a member of some group of football blueblood schools.

I believe thread title provides sufficient fodder for a GTO poll.

Did you see that playoff predictor at the very end of the show? Had Cincy, Florida, USC, Coastal and maybe even Northwestern on the list. Hell it had Oklahoma on there. ISU nowhere to be found

*puts on tinfoil hat*
Barta is trying to use us as a media smokescreen to distract from the Ohio State shenanigans. Not that it’s working, but he’s trying. And it gives the media another chance to loudly bag on us.

Also, I would bet the committee thinks we’re going to get rolled by OU, and our ranking would give them an excuse to jump OU into the top 4 in case something weird happens (FL over AL or NW over OSU)
*removes tinfoil hat*

This has been my thought as well. If OU wins Saturday, then it would justify with the committee to move them way up to be in contention for a playoff spot if the the moon and stars line up correctly.

I remember when KU played their way out of the cellar for a couple of years, almost going undefeated, and ESPN couldn't quit gushing about what a miraculous turnaround it was. We used to fight the Left Coast-Right Coast mentality back in the day, and now it's just conference biases and flat out lazy reporting.

This is one of the many reasons they need to expand to 8 teams, or at least 6 with a wild-card. I know the NCAA lost sight of their purpose decades ago, but if bb tourney can take the better part of a month, it really shouldn't be too much to ask them to add another round of games to ensure everybody that deserves it, gets a shot... It's a guaranteed money maker, and could create a ton more excitement outside the South.

Even without even keel coverages, CMC is kicking butt. Imagine what he could do if we were on the ESPN "favs list"!

GO NORTHWESTERN!!!!

Nailed it.

Honestly when it's Bama/Clemson in the title game I don't hardly watch.

You know what was captivating TV? When Boise took down OU that one year, or when a low seed makes a run in the NCAA tourney.

Not saying ISU is either of these but geez why not enjoy it?

I've seen/heard a lot of knocks on the B12 recently too from other panels including broadcasting teams in the NFL. Meanwhile, OU gives up 80 rushing yards/game.

In a way this sort of reminds me of the derecho disaster national (lack of) coverage in August. Unless it's an election Iowa doesn't matter.

It's frustrating as hell this year.

We just have to keep winning and the respect will grudgingly follow. Look how long it took for K-State to be respected.

And I'm old enough to remember when Florida State was building their brand. Bobby Bowden's philosophy was "we'll play anybody anywhere." (They were independent at the time) and they started winning. I still remember in my earliest working days some of the older guys would do weekly pools on major college games. I basically said, "Don't underestimate the Florida schools." I won plenty and eventually the older guys came around.

I think the predictor is heavily weighted by past seasons. The fact that no two loss team has ever made the playoffs pretty much eliminates us in the predictor because it’s never happened before.

No it won’t. We’ve earned our #6 ranking. If we lose, we will drop of course. But losing on Saturday doesn’t erase the results of the seaso.

Apparently, if you play Alabama you instantly have a top ten SOS. Texas A&M & Georgia don't have a top ten SOS. I underlined their best 3 wins.

Texas A&M (7-1)
  • Florida (8-2): W. Florida’s best win is Georgia who’s (7-2)
  • @ Auburn (6-4): W. Auburn’s best win is @ Mississippi who’s (4-4)
  • LSU (4-5): W
  • Vanderbilt (0-8): W
  • Arkansas (3-6): W
  • @ Mississippi State (2-6): W
  • @ South Carolina (2-8): W
  • @ Alabama (10-0): L
  • @ Tennessee (3-6): TBD

Georgia (7-2)
  • Auburn (6-4): W. Their best win is @ Mississippi who’s (4-4)
  • @ Missouri (5-4): W. Their best win is LSU (4-5)
  • @ Kentucky (4-6): W
  • @ Arkansas (3-7): W
  • Tennessee (3-6): W
  • Mississippi State (2-7): W
  • @ South Carolina (2-8): W
  • @ Alabama (10-0): L
  • Florida (8-2): L
