Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

I just don't think Iowa will ever really be in a position to have a bunch of one and dones so I'm liking the approach of trying to find players that may develop and stay four or more years. Guys like Aaron White and Wieskamp and Niang.
There is an allure to being able to put players in the NBA, but coaches like Prohm can't figure out how to re-stock the cupboards fast enough. I would prefer if he, personally would take the approach Fred did and go for 3-4 year players that end up sticking in the pros when they're done. Fran's approach is fine, but it's nice being able to follow your favorite players basketball careers once their done playing collegiately.

Yes. Bolton is not bad. There are many things that seem to get your panties in a bunch over here.....this shouldn't be one of them.

Being not bad on a horrible team is a little different than being the 2nd best player on the #3 team in the nation.

Yeah, but you can't really turn down a THT, Hali or even Wigginton for a guy who isn't quite as good who may stick around. T lewis was supposed to be that level and he just couldn't catch on. If talent wants to come you work with it.

I dont know that I would classify Wieskamp and Bolton as similar players. Wieskamp went through a stretch at the end of last season where he struggled offensively but didnt play like a knucklehead.

I can see your point, but Horton-Tucker probably would have been a 1st round draft pick no matter where he went to college. I don't think ISU did anything special to get him drafted. He was pretty much ready to go from the start.
Talen was not a for sure first round pick. He was a mid four star recruit. He had a similar ranking to Weiskamp coming out of high school who is still stuck at Iowa with likely no NBA future.

I'd look and see what our NBA expert Benji said but we know it was stupid, so why waste time?

The main difference is Wieskamp has played so many years with the same crew.....they know when it's knucklehead time and can take up the slack. Our guys have played to together for entire 2 games. Not enough time to figure that out.

This to a T. Bolton was playing like one of the best players in the Big 12 the last 2-3 weeks of the season last year. Just takes time when you're a new piece or you're surrounded by new pieces.

In hindsight, would you have traded one year of Talen Horton-Tucker for at least three years and maybe four of Wieskamp?

Never.... dumb question.

I always want Prohm to recruit the more talented and NBA ready kids over someone that might give you 4 years because he's not as good.

Putting all these players in the NBA helps your recruiting. It's why Foster chose ISU over Iowa. Tyrese Hunter will be our next NBA level player coming in next season.... and hopefully we can add another one too.

Everyday of the week and twice on Sunday- Fran’s plan of relying on non NBA players who stay 4 and 5 years is finally paying off on Year 11. ISU’s success over the last 20 years with guys going early all the way back to Fizer shows that you need horses to get it done consistently. ISU’s challenge they don’t reload as quickly as the Dukes, KU’s , Gonzaga’s of the world. But over an extended period of time, they have reloaded faster and better than IA.
Congrats- enjoy your glory year- with this model the Hawks will be back here in Year 22 for Fran.
