Tyrese Hunter PG '21 - Committed!

Obviously I'd prefer him to be coached by our staff there is a good argument that the best thing for Hunter is to get major minutes to be improve his PG skillls work on his shot in order to contribute right away next year.

If next year doesn't count for the eligibility clock... why not. No downside to it.

Having half the Big 12 slate, even in a reserve role, is valuable experience for his true "freshman" year, when I would imagine he is going to be called upon for a pretty major role pretty quickly.

Assuming he starts, though...

Hunter
Bolton
Coleman-Lands
Johnson
Young
---
Harris/Jackson
Blackwell
Conditt/Foster

Exactly what I was thinking, with the year not counting against eligibility this year. Getting here at semester makes so much sense even if he didn't play a major role (which I think he would) the experience would be invaluable for his development.

Yeah, no offense to his high school, prep school, or AAU teams, but he is going to learn a ton more playing against Harris, Jackson, JCL, and Bolton in practice... experienced at the high-major level... than he is there.

And that is before you start making him play against Jared Butler, Marcus Garrett, Austin Reaves, Cade Cunningham, and Matt Coleman in the Big 12 schedule. Gonna be a rough day for a freshman.

:)

But that is what we want.

I did say I would prefer having our staff coaching him in the spring. Just noting the positive side where TH is getting minutes in the spring to improve his game isn't a bad thing. Moot point regardless. Let Tyrese enjoy his Prohm. ;)

A little disappointed a top 50 point guard could not draw another recruit to sign with Iowa State today. Hopefully there's some top 100-150 talent that wants to play with an elite PG recruit.

Come on, it is a crazy time to recruit. I'm thrilled we got Tyrese.

Also, we have 2 seniors with the possibility of several staying for an extra year. I think it is important to be flexible this year.

Still have two open scholarships pre attrition. However, I'd be happy with one really good shooter.

I’d be happy with the good shooters we already have not clanking away this season.

Assuming that Hinson is healthy next year, I kinda have a hard time figuring out just what else this group needs. Prohm seems not to consider that “another post player”.

If Solo does come back He, Conditt, and Foster as traditional big with Hinson, and Johnson with potentially Blackwell also playing the small ball 4 roll. Would we really need another big right now?

I think a more intriguing question would be a guy like Conditt. He was a bit of a project because he was still settling in after his huge growth spurt, honestly a guy who should have taken a RS year (I know that's not really a thing anymore but he fit the bill perfect). That 5th year would do him wonders.
