Kirk Ferentz getting sued for being racist

This review will likely wrap up during fall camp. Nothing meaningful will come of it. Guaranteed. Just more talk of listening, councils, task forces, and the like.

Which is fine if that helps their players. But there will be no real accountability.
Yeah there will most likely not be accountability, however Barta did say the right words, even if nothing comes of them.

I didnt follow that line of questioning. Doesnt it seem odd and unlikely that they could decide not to extend Doyle for next year 2 weeks before the next year starts? Based on the below tweet, it seems like the 2020-2021 year for Doyle would have had to have been declined by 04/01/2019.

This is interesting then, because Barta stated they believed they were able to move on from Doyle prior to the findings of the independent investigation.. So, there had to have been enough information for Iowa to prove there was cause to let go of Doyle right? Well, Doyle would've have to had gotten fired for that and if he would've gotten fired, he would've brought Iowa to court where Iowa would've had to pay more in legal fees, as well as given Doyle an opportunity to speak up about everything, which Iowa definitely did not want him to do.

So with that being said, Iowa's best case scenario for this was exactly what they ended up doing.

Based on the 50 or so past players that have raised concerns along with what happened in the team meeting a week ago, they had to move on from Doyle and the settlement agreement was the best way to do it.

I just have a hard time believing what a couple posters are saying here given that tweet from Dochterman. Iowa had to void his 2021-2022 contract by 04/01/2020 but could have voided his contract for 2020-2021 on 06/15/2020.

That makes no sense at all.

Doyle's contract was up July 1

Did Barta discuss this in the presser? I would be surprised if Iowa hadn’t already extended him. Tweet someone posted above makes it sounds like Iowa would have had to move on from Doyle by April 1, 2020.

I have no background in contract law, nor do I know what the details of Doyle's contract were, but I guess you're right in that it seems difficult Iowa would have been able to void his contract.. Either way though this is the best scenario for Iowa because even if they could've voided his contract, Doyle would've been very unhappy and could've spoken out about the program. The way Iowa did it, let Iowa pay Doyle less money than they would've had they fired him, the situation isn't going to get drug out for months, and Doyle is likely not going to publicly speak about all of this.

They had to void his contract for 2021-2022 by 4/1/2020.

I would disagree with this. While it is important for people to realize the shady things that have been associated with that particular athletic department that would detract from the current situation and per the name of the page seem kind of disingenuous. Now maybe a link to another site that highlights some of the other past issues would be good.

My point was that there is a long history of discrimination

I fully agree, but I would still think a link to a separate site with the laundry list of Kirk, and Barta would be a better arrangement to keep the current discrimination allegations separate from the previous cover ups/discrimination/cheating the system.

Just reading current discriminations vs past discriminations etc and it's insane that all of these guys still have a job!

There also could be a tab that says "Why Kirk and Barta aren't capable of making the change" and within that tab show all of those separate issues in which they've had, providing evidence that they do not have any ethical credibility for this situation.

They could have point blank fired Doyle for cause and owed him nothing. But, Iowa obviously has made the calculation to live with the $1.1M settlement versus the alternative. That they didn't retain him after a suspension speaks volumes about what Iowa has unearthed so far.

It's not that simple. Doyle would've came back after Iowa and sued them for wrongful termination. It would've gone to court. It would've gotten ugly. Doyle would've thrown blame onto Barta, Kirk, Brian, and others. Iowa could've ended up paying him A LOT more and their name would be even more tarnished. Also, it could've brought forth even MORE information than what the independent investigators may find.

So now there is a 2019 task force report that the players' attorneys will get to chase down. This is not over.
